Buy OSRS Gold Safely Without Getting Banned

Buy OSRS Gold Safely Without Getting Banned

After recent statements of Jagex, a lot of people are currently scared to buy or sell OSRS gold. Which is understandable. Whenever Jagex drops such news, they usually crack down hard on real-world trading (RWT) for a bit, and they did. We heard a lot of sellers getting banned after this announcement, and our accounts, unfortunately, also faced some RWT bans. Therefore, we had to come up with a new plan and new measures to make buying and selling gold on our website even safer. Fortunately, Jagex has slowed down with the RWT bans, and our new methods worked. We haven’t had any more RWT bans recently, while we still hear other gold sellers getting banned regularly.

We at LuckyCharmGold have been in the business of buying and selling OSRS Gold since 2019, and over the years, have stress-tested the best methods for RWT. In this guide, we will share all the knowledge we have gathered over the years, tackle common misconceptions about RWT, and give you all the tips to make sure you can buy OSRS gold safely without getting banned.

To summarize in short: how to buy OSRS gold safely without getting banned

  • Use a website that cares about RWT bans and the source of gold
  • Buy OSRS Items instead of OSRS Gold
  • Avoid marketplaces like Eldorado & Playerauctions
  • Do not use a VPN or proxy when doing RWT
  • Don’t use an alt account, buy only using your main (the account you regularly play on)
  • Use regular trading instead of tip-jar, PKing, and drop-trading

Buy OSRS Gold from a website that cares about your safety and the source of gold

Choosing a reliable website or seller

We heard many stories about RWT bans happening to customers who previously bought gold from other websites & Discord servers. These websites or Discord servers were usually run by sellers trading huge amounts of gold on their accounts daily, trading on low combat accounts, and some even in F2P worlds. That is just asking for an RWT ban as a seller, as these websites & sellers will always be on the radar of Jagex, which consequently makes you get banned as a buyer when recently trading them.

What happens in these situations is that their throw-away accounts get permanently banned daily, and all the accounts that traded the account (which are customers) will get either an RWT warning or will also be permanently banned (depending on the amount bought). The few times that our accounts got banned for RWT were cases where we were buying gold from bulk resellers on forums like Sythe, and our accounts got banned because these bulk resellers got banned in the first place. Therefore, we moved to a process of only purchasing gold from customers on our website.

Source of OSRS Gold

This is maybe one of the most important and overlooked problems that barely any website, Discord seller, or marketplace tackles. The source of OSRS Gold (where it is coming from) is one of the most significant ways to prevent RWT bans. If the gold that you are buying is coming indirectly from a gold farmer or bot farm, then Jagex might be monitoring this gold and where it is getting traced to. If they then trace this OSRS Gold to your account, they are certain that you bought this in an illegal way, and this will cause your account to get banned.

The issue is that many gold sellers cannot accurately track where the seller of the OSRS gold is from, since they mostly deal via platforms like Discord. Most other websites simply don’t care about this as well, and just buy any gold from people trying to sell it to their website.  Therefore, I always recommend purchasing websites (since websites can track IP addresses of sellers and therefore have better insights into the source of gold). In the section below, we talk about how we review gold sellers on our website.

Our way of trading at LuckyCharmGold

At LuckyCharmGold, we are trading only on high-level combat accounts with a combat level of 115+. These accounts furthermore have a total level of at least 1250+ and have at least some quests done. This makes it look like a very natural, real player account. Each month, we are trading a lot of volume of OSRS Gold on many of these types of accounts, making sure that each account doesn’t over-trade. We rotate accounts often and make sure that we play on a different IP address for each account. We use high-quality, real residential non-detectable proxies to trade, which again makes us look like real players instead of a suspicious account playing on a VPN or a bad-quality proxy.

Finally, we are only purchasing OSRS Gold from sellers who will come to our website, being really careful about the gold we accept. We are only buying from customers selling OSRS gold to us on high-level accounts and avoiding trading with gold farmer countries such as Venezuela, Pakistan, Egypt & India. We also monitor how many times somebody comes back to our website. If a customer comes back daily / every 2 days to our website, then it is very likely he has a bot farm and are just offloading our gold to us. In those cases, we decide not to purchase any gold from this seller anymore. As his account is very likely to get banned & we run the risk of RWT bans hitting our accounts, continuing to trade him.

Honestly speaking, we are unique in the way we tackle OSRS RWT, and we actually care about our own accounts not getting banned as well as our customers' accounts. Many sellers & websites don’t care about their accounts and trade on low-value accounts that are constantly getting replaced when they are banned. They care only about profiting the most and trading as much as they can (hence the cheap prices they are able to offer). They don’t care about customer safety, but only about monetary gains.

Buying OSRS Gold vs. buying OSRS items

Twisted Bow.

Instead of buying OSRS Gold, you can also buy OSRS items instead. From our experience, this reduces the likelihood of an RWT ban, since the trade looks far more natural. Real players usually never trade over large sums of gold, but they usually lend each other items. For instance, PvMers regularly lend each other items, such as a twisted bow, for them to do certain bosses. These trades are regularly done at the Grand Exchange. Since the trade looks like two real players are lending each other items, the chances of an RWT ban are therefore way less likely.

Avoid marketplaces like Eldorado & Playerauctions

Eldorado & Playerauctions are very popular marketplaces where people are able to buy OSRS gold at cheap prices. However, there is a big problem with these marketplaces. It is literally a race to the bottom for sellers offering the cheapest OSRS gold possible to be the best and first offer. These price-fighter sellers are trading bulk amounts of gold and are therefore able to offer the cheapest prices. It is very dangerous to purchase this gold since these sellers are very likely to get banned daily on these accounts, because they simply trade too much.

Furthermore, these sellers are often from gold farmers from countries like Pakistan, Venezuela, and Egypt, where the source of gold comes from illegal activities, making the chance of getting caught even bigger. Finally, these players don’t have a website and are therefore not able to monitor the source of OSRS gold like websites do. Although this looks like a very favorable place to purchase OSRS gold, also cheap and comes with a very high risk of getting banned. I would personally never recommend doing this since your account is invaluable.

Do not use a VPN when doing RWT

VPN

Contrary to popular belief, a VPN or proxy will NOT make the chances of catching an RWT ban lower. Using a VPN will make you more likely to be banned. Firstly, a VPN or proxy can be used by somebody else for RWT and can be flagged by Jagex. Doing another gold trade on the same IP address will cause your account to be instantly banned for RWT.

Secondly, your account changing IP addresses and instantly trading large amounts of gold or items is very suspicious and will cause Jagex's system to raise suspicion. We noticed that a lot of RWT bans have come from the change of an IP address. The safest thing to do is to trade on the IP address and device that you normally play the game on, as this will not flag your account within Jagex's systems and thus will keep you safer.

Don't use an ALT account

level 3 account

Some customers may be inclined to use an alternative account, such as a pure or a fresh level 3 account, to use as a mule for their transaction. This is also a very big misconception made in the RWT business. A fresh account is monitored heavily, and alternate accounts that do not play the game but are logging in to trade large sums of wealth will increase the likelihood of your main being banned, as Jagex is far more likely to flag an alternate account used solely for RWT and trace the wealth transfer back to your main.

Another reason why trading on alternate accounts is a bad idea is the fact that two trades are done on your IP address instead of just one. Having more trades done between accounts always increases the risk of an RWT ban. Furthermore, low-level accounts with low playtime that are trading on free-to-play worlds will also increase the likelihood of being flagged, as these are the accounts that are closely monitored by Jagex.

To prove this point, check out the video of Solomission, where his level 3 account got banned because he was trading large sums of wealth from his main account to his level 3 account.

Different methods for RWT

There are various methods that people use RWT, such as regular trading, Player-Killing (PKing), tip-jar, and drop trading. We at LuckyCharmGold advise you just to use the regular trading method when buying and selling OSRS gold or items. Jagex has no way to monitor if the trade was a loan or a PvM split that was obtained, for instance.

trading between players

Staking was another great way to transfer large amounts of gold; however, since the duel arena removal, this is no longer viable. Using other methods, such as PKing, tip-jar, and drop trading, raises suspicion from our point of view. It is highly irregular to transfer large sums of money for these methods, and therefore, something is more likely to be detected by Jagex for RWT. When doing RWT and you don’t want to get caught, you need to mimic being a real player, and real players trade wealth back and forth via trade, and won’t have to resort to doing shady tactics. For instance, PvMers typically loan out a Twisted Bow or Scythe to a fellow clan member to go bossing. PKers usually help other clan members by transferring some gear & supplies.

Buying bonds: the way to RWT with no risk

Bonds are a way of directly buying gold from Jagex, with absolutely 0 risks of an RWT ban. Though some overly cautious players choose to purchase their gold this way, it is highly recommended to avoid buying bonds. They are extremely expensive for the amount of gold you get, costing around 4-5x as much as black market gold, whilst the actual risk of purchasing gold is extremely low if you decide on the right website that cares about your safety.

What are the chances of an RWT ban?

That completely depends on what you are doing yourself and where you are buying from. If you follow all the information in our guide and buy OSRS gold from us, then the chances are extremely slim that you will ever get an RWT ban. However, I would like to stress that although we are very safe & careful with our RWT practices, this doesn’t mean that the chances of a ban are zero. There is always risk involved when doing RWT; we just know the best way to minimize it. Whether you want to choose to take the risk is a decision you have to make yourself.

Different types of RWT bans

If you followed all the practices listed above, the chances of a RWT ban would be very slim. There are two types of bans that you can catch: an RWT major permanent ban and an RWT minor ban. This usually depends on the amount of gold that you purchased. If you purchased high amounts of gold, then most likely you will be permanently banned; for buying lower amounts of OSRS gold, you will most likely first get a minor ban.

RWT Warning (minor x-day ban)

Most buyers of OSRS gold get an RWT warning from Jagex in the form of a minor 3-day ban. This happens mostly when an OSRS gold seller is caught; all the accounts that have traded with the permanently banned seller's account will get a RWT minor x-day ban. We get plenty of questions from people who got a ban like this when buying from other websites, and whether it is safe to do more RWT on the account. We answer that if they care about the account, it is best not to RWT anymore. If you still want to RWT, then make sure to buy from a website that really cares about your safety. Buying items in lower amounts is the safest way if you still want to RWT.

RWT Major (permanent ban)

If you are caught with a permanent ban, then there is not that much you can do. Recently, Jagex, however, did update their appeal system that allow appeals for RWT major also to be sent. However, I have yet to hear of a case where this RWT appeal actually got accepted. Unless you are incredibly lucky, your account will be permanently gone, and you will have to create a new one.
