OSRS Blast Mine Guide: XP Rates & Rewards

OSRS Blast Mine Guide: XP Rates & Rewards

The Blast Mine is a popular location for training mining which also offers firemaking experience. The gameplay is quite simple, but it does require careful preparation for optimal experience rates, it involves the use of dynamite to blast pieces of ores within a hard rock, these ores must then be washed before they disintegrate.

Recommendations for Blast Mining

  • Elite Kourend & Kebos Diary: this gives the player an additional 10% chance to obtain higher-tier ores
  • Full graceful: blast mining requires a lot of running so the full graceful outfit is highly recommended to save energy. It gives a 30% increased natural run energy restoration. The graceful cape can exchanged for a lighter alternative like an agility cape.
  • Dragon or Crystal pickaxe: either of these can increase the player’s mining level. Dragon pickaxe requires 61 mining and 60 attack to wield. The crystal pickaxe requires 71 mining and the song of the elves to create and use.
  • Celestial ring or Celestial Signet: Wearing the celestial ring gives the player an invisible +4 boost to mining. It can be purchased from Dusuri’s Star Shop for 2,000 stardust. The celestial signet also offers a +4 boost to mining. It can be created by combining a celestial ring, elven signet, 100 crystal shards, and 1,000 stardust.
  • Prospector kit; Players are advised to equip pieces of the prospector kit when collecting washed ore from the operator, as the outfit will increase the received experience.

Inventory setup for Blast Mining

  • Chisel
  • Tinderbox
  • Dynamite
  • Super energy or stamina potions

How to play the Blast Mine

At first, players must remove the hard rock using a chisel and then a pot of dynamite should be used on the cleared area. Using a tinderbox, light the dynamite and run at least two squares away from it if not, you will take 15 damage. After the dynamite explodes, the player should collect the blasted ores from the ground and deposit them into an ore sack near a working operator within three minutes, or else it will disappear.

The sack will become full when the player has deposited up to 900 of any single type of ore into it and they need to collect the ores before they can deposit any more. There is a nearby operator who will notify them of this. Mining experience along with ores mined can obtained from the brown-hair operator shown below.

Best Strategies for Blast Mining

When looking to be efficient, players should follow a particular pattern to enhance their speed and experience rates. It’s important to reduce the time wasted waiting for the dynamite to explode, reduce the damage you take, and reduce the time spent running to the deposit and returning.

Depositing 8 rock in North West Strategy

This strategy is the most efficient way of doing blast mining. For this strategy, players should stay on the northwest corner and deposit eight blasted ore with each cycle.

Using the image shown, follow the steps below.

Depositing 8 rock in North West Strategy

  • .Dig, set, and ignite dynamite on rock 1
  • (If doing again) Retrieve the ore from rock 1
  • Dig and set dynamite on rocks 2 and 3
  • Ignite dynamite on rocks 2 and 3
  • (If doing again) Retrieve the ore from rocks 2 and 3
  • Dig, set, and ignite dynamite on rock 4
  • (If doing again) Retrieve the ore from rock 4
  • Dig and set dynamite on rocks 5 and 6
  • Ignite dynamite on rocks 5 and 6
  • (If doing again) Retrieve the ore from rocks 5 and 6
  • Dig, set, and ignite dynamite on rock 7
  • (If doing again) Retrieve the ore from rock 7
  • Dig, set, and ignite dynamite on rock 8
  • (If doing again) Retrieve the ore from rock 8
  • (If doing again) Deposit the ore into the sack
  • Every third cycle: Go to the bank to either un-note items or withdraw more dynamite and potions
  • Repeat the entire process.

North-east Strategy

This is the second most efficient method of playing the blast mine. It offers some margin for error. Players can get up to 380 blasted ore mined per hour when using this strategy at maximum efficiency, including banking every 2.5 cycles.

North-east Strategy

  • If ore is available: Collect the blasted ore from tile 1.
  • Excavate and set dynamite on the rocks next to tile 1.
  • Ignite the dynamite on the rocks next to tile 1.
  • If ore is available: Collect the blasted ore from tile 2.
  • Excavate and set dynamite on the rocks next to tile 2.
  • Ignite the dynamite on the rocks next to tile 2.
  • Every 5 cycles (starting at the 2.5 cycle):
  • Collect the blasted ore from tiles 3, 4, 2, and 1, in that order.
  • Deposit the ore into the sack.
  • Visit the bank to either un-note items or withdraw more dynamite and potions.
  • If ore is available: Collect the blasted ore from tile 3.
  • Excavate and set dynamite on the rocks next to tile 3.
  • Ignite the dynamite on the rocks next to tile 3.
  • If ore is available: Collect the blasted ore from tile 4.
  • Excavate and set dynamite on the rocks next to tile 4.
  • Ignite the dynamite on the rocks next to tile 4.
  • Every 5 cycles (starting at the 5th cycle):
  • Collect the blasted ore from tiles 1, 2, 3, and 4, in that order.
  • Deposit the ore into the sack.
  • Visit the bank to either un-note items or withdraw more dynamite and potions.
  • Repeat the process.

Depositing 6 rock in North West Strategy

Players should only use the northwest corner and deposit six blasted ore with each cycle. They have enough time to move to the next spot to avoid damage, and picking up the ore often allows for extended breaks. Players can get up to 362 blasted ore mined per hour when using maximum efficiency and banking every 4 cycles.

Based on grand exchange prices of the ores collected;
