OSRS Hosidius Mess Hall Cooking Guide & XP Per Hour

The Hosidius mess hall is a building, south of the Great Kourend statue, where the Hosidius cook feeds the soldiers of Shayzien. Players can help cook and serve food to the soldiers, earning decent cooking XP. This is especially useful for Ironman accounts, especially Ultimate Hardcore, as no items are required from outside the Mess. However, it is not profitable.

Requirement for cooking Mess

20 cooking: This is required to cook the lowest tier food available in the Mess, the severy meat pie. 65 cooking is required to get the best XP rates. 

How to get to the Mess

• Xeric’s talisman: use this to teleport to Xeric’s Heart and run south. This is the fastest method of getting to the Mess.
• Kourend Castle teleport: then run south
• Kharedst’s memoirs teleport to lunch by Lancalliums: then run west. This requires completion of the Depth of Despair)

Overview of the Mess

When players enter the Mess, the interface in the image below will appear in the top left corner of the player’s game client. This interface shows the food the soldiers will appreciate the most, giving the most cooking XP when served. The appreciation usually starts at 33% for each type of food. When one type is cooked and served, the appreciation for it lowers, while increasing the appreciation for the other 2 food types. So, to continue making the same type of food, the player needs to hop worlds continuously as each world has different appreciation levels, based on the food type players are cooking.

Ingredients needed to cook all food types can be obtained from different areas in the Mess kitchen area as shown below. 

1. Food cupboard: it contains servery flour, servery pineapple, servery potato, servery cheese, and servery tomato.
2. Utensil cupboard: it contains servery dishes, bowls, and knives.
3. Sink: players can use this to fill bowls with water.
4. Meat table: it contains servery raw meat
5. Range or Clay oven: for cooking the food.
6. Buffet tables: This is where players will serve the food. Use the prepared food on the table to get the Cooking XP reward.

How to Make Food in the Mess

Here are the methods for making different types of food.

Severy Meat Pie

20 cooking is required to make this food.

Items required for Severy meat pie

• Servery raw meat
• Servery dish
• Servery flour
• Bowl

Steps for making Severy meat pie

1. Fill a bowl with water through the sink.
2. Combine the bowl of water with servery flour to make servery pastry dough.
3. Use the dough on a servery dish to create a servery pie shell.
4. Cook servery raw meat and add the cooked meat to the pie shell to create an uncooked pie.
5. Bake it in the clay oven to complete the servery meat pie.

Serving one severy meat pie grants 160 Cooking XP.

Servery Stew

25 cooking is required to make this food

Items required for servery stew

• servery raw meat
• servery potato
• bowl

Steps for making Severy stew

1. Fill a bowl with water through the sink.
2. Cook servery raw meat and combine the cooked meat with the bowl of water to make an incomplete stew.
3. Add a servery potato to the stew to create an uncooked stew.
4. Cook it in the clay oven to finish the servery stew.

Serving one severy stew grants 168 Cooking XP.

Servery Pineapple Pizza

65 cooking is required to make this food

Items required for servery pineapple

• servery tomato
• servery pineapple
• servery cheese
• servery flour
• Bowl
• Knife

Steps for making servery pineapple

1. Fill a bowl with water.
2. Mix the water with servery flour to make a servery pizza base.
3. Add a servery tomato to the base to create an incomplete pizza.
4. Add servery cheese to make an uncooked pizza.
5. Cook the pizza in the clay oven to create a plain pizza.
6. Use a knife to chop the servery pineapple into chunks and add them to the pizza.

Serving one Pineapple Pizza Grants 369 Cooking XP.

Strategy for Cooking in the Mess

Strategy for making Servery Meat Pies

1. Withdraw 14 servery flours and bowls from the cupboards, then fill the bowls with water by using them on the sink.
2. Use the bowl of water and flour to make 14 servery pastry doughs. You can do this faster by spam-clicking them and holding down 1 on your keyboard. After, you should use the bowl on the severy cupboard to keep all of them instantly.
3. Grab 14 servery dishes from the cupboard and use the pastry dough on them to make 14 servery pie shells. Set up your inventory as shown in the image above to manually do this quicker.
4. Get 14 servery meat from the meat table, cook, and then add them to the pie shells to make 14 servery uncooked pies. Arrange your inventory similarly to the one above to do this quicker.
5. Cook the severy uncooked pies by using them on the nearby range
6. (Optional) Withdraw bulk flour or bowls for efficiency when repeating.
7. Use the cooked meat pies on the buffet table to serve it and get the XP reward.

Strategy for making Servery Stews

1. Withdraw 14 bowls from the cupboard and fill them with water by using them on them sink.
2. Take 14 servery meat from the meat table. Cook and add them to the bowls of water to make incomplete stews.  You should set up your inventory as above to manually do this quicker
3. Get 14 servery potatoes from the servery cupboard. Add them to the stews to create uncooked stews. Arrange your inventory similarly to the one above to do this quicker.
4. Cook the stews in the severy uncooked stew with the nearby range.
5. (Optional) Withdraw bulk bowls for efficiency when repeating.
6. Place the cooked stews on the buffet table by using the stews on them to get the XP reward.

Strategy for making Servery Pineapple Pizzas

1. Withdraw 2 knives, 13 servery flours, and 13 bowls from the Servery cupboard.
2. Fill the bowls with water and combine them with the flour to make pizza dough.  You can do this faster by spam-clicking them and holding down 2 on your keyboard. Arrange your inventory similarly to the one below to make it easier. After, use the empty bowls on the cupboard to instantly keep all of them.
3. Get 13 tomatoes from the servery cupboard, then add them to the servery pizza to create incomplete pizzas.
4. Get 13 cheese from the servery cupboard, then add them to the incomplete pizzas to make uncooked pizzas.
5. Cook the Pizza on the nearby range
6. Grab 13 Pineapples from the servery cupboard and use a knife on them to create chunks
7. Add the chunks to the pizzas
8. (Optional) Withdraw bulk flour or bowls for efficiency when repeating.
9. Use the pineapple pizzas on the buffet table to get the cooking XP reward.

Here are the XP rates players can expect from making the different types of food if they follow the strategy listed above at the Mess Hall.

• At 20 cooking, players can expect around 48,000–60,000 per hour when making Severy meat pie
• At 25 cooking, players can expect around 60,000–72,000 per hour when making Severy stews
• At 65 cooking, players can expect around 160,000–200,000 per hour when making Severy Pineapple Pizzaz
