OSRS Vale Totems Guide: Strategy & XP Per Hour

OSRS Vale Totems Guide: Strategy & XP Per Hour

Vale Totems is a new minigame introduced to the game about fletching, a skill that has long been forgotten and is intended to revive its popularity. This minigame takes place in the northern part of Varlamore and offers high fletching exp rates and a new, less boring method than repeatedly chopping logs on the bench and trying not to die of boredom. This guide will cover requirements, how to get there, how the minigame works, strategies for efficiency, rewards, and the best XP rates.

Requirements
  20 Fletching
Quest: Completion of the Vale Totems miniquest.
Agility 45 (recommended): unlocks shortcuts between certain totems for faster laps.

Items
Knife
Logs
Axe

Location

How to Get There

Kettzel bird transport (after Twilight’s Promise) → directly to Auburn Vale.
Pendant of Ates teleport to Nemus Retreat with completion of The Heart of Darkness
Fairy ring code AIS → quick teleport option.
Once there, start at the northern bank in Auburn Vale.
At Vale Totems, players complete a circuit of 8 totem sites around the valley

How It Works

Build Totem – use 1 log at the totem spot.

Carve Totem – carve it based on the 3 nearby spirits.

Select the option of the 3 animals that are around you, ignore the animal that is not there. RuneLite plugin available to highlight correct spirits.
Decorate Totem – add 4 fletched items (short/long bows, strung/unstrung, matching log type).

Each completed totem gives
15% run energy restoration.
XP from both carving & decorations.
A chance for Ent offerings, which provide loot and research points.

Ent Trails
As the player progresses, they will notice that the Ents drop trails. If you step on both of them, they will provide 15% more rewards and EXP at the next totem, so keep an eye out for them!
(Ent trial off)   (Ent trial on)

Durability
The starting durability of a totem is based on the type of wood used. An oak totem starts with a durability of 2, where as a redwood totem starts with a durability of 7.

Inventory Setupㅤ
Knife (mandatory).
Logs + Fletched Items:
Log Basket (optional): lets you skip one of the banks mid-route.

Strategy & Route
Start from the northern bank in Auburn Vale.
Move clockwise through the 8 totem sites.
Always fletch while running to have decorations ready on arrival.
Bank mid-way (Totem 5) unless using a log basket.
Repeat the full loop continuously.

XP Per Hour
Magic Logs are superior to Redwood Logs for XP:
Magic Longbows → 91 XP per fletch.
Redwood Staffs → only 10 XP per fletch.
With Fletching Knife + Bowstring Spool:
String bows while running between totems.
Best Rates: up to 420k XP/hr with Magic Longbows.
Without uniques: ~200–250k XP/hr depending on level and efficiency.

Rewards
From Ent offerings and the reward shop:
Fletching Knife
Reduces fletching actions by 1 tick.
Bowstring Spool
Holds up to 250 bowstrings
Greenman mask

Makes you feel one with nature
Ent Branches
Used to fletch lateral darts.
General Loot
GP, research points, and small skilling supplies.

Conclusion
Vale Totems is one of the best new training methods for Fletching, offering:
Competitive XP rates (200k–420k/hr).
AFK-lite gameplay with smart mechanics like energy boosts and Ent Trails.
Useful uniques that speed up training across the game.
A great value for both core and Ironman players. If you're looking for efficient fletching training, in addition to stocking up on bowstrings and unlocking powerful tools, Vale Totems is worth adding to your fletching training routine.
