Black Chinchompas are unique creatures used as stackable ranged weapons. Their ability to hit multiple enemies simultaneously allows players to achieve impressive ranged XP rates, making them highly sought after for ranged training. These chinchompas can only be caught using the Hunter skill, and they’re exclusively found in the Wilderness, adding an element of risk to the reward.
Note that if a player dies with Chinchompas in their inventory or equipped, the Chinchompas will disappear and cannot be retrieved. Since you are in the Wilderness, it is best to take only 3 expensive pieces of armour so you can save them on death, or 4 if you are using protect item prayer. Make sure you turn off the player attack option in settings, so you can't attack other players and don’t get skull tricked.

South-east of the Lava Maze: This is the only location where players can catch Black Chinchompas. It is close to the Lava Maze, deep in the level 40–45 wilderness, so beware of PKers. There are 12 spawns in this location, enough to get decent XP and Catch rates.
Here are the fastest methods to get here:
To hunt Black Chinchompas, you'll need to use a box trap, just like with other chinchompas. However, getting the best Hunter XP rates with Black Chins requires more strategy and attention. It’s a good idea to bring along a ranged weapon and some ammunition, as this can significantly improve your efficiency.
The process involves using your ranged weapon to kill the Black Chinchompas that escape your traps. By doing this, you can see exactly where they spawn and position your traps accordingly. Once you’ve identified the spawn square, surround it with box traps. This setup increases your chances of catching the Black Chins as they respawn.
Occasionally, a Black Chin may dismantle your traps and wander off. If this happens, quickly kill it with your ranged weapon, reset your traps, and wait for it to respawn. Fortunately, Black Chins respawn very quickly—usually within three to four seconds—so you won’t lose much time.
While this method requires more focus and attention, the extra effort pays off with significantly better XP rates, making it one of the most effective ways to train Hunter and earn profit simultaneously. After you get enough black Chinchompas that you can’t risk due to PKers, run/walk down to level 30 wilderness and teleport using any teleportation method you have.
To minimize chances of running into PKers, play on worlds with high skill level requirements. Additionally, play during off-peak hours when the overall player activity is lower. If you run into one, run south to level 30 wilderness while using Protect from mage. Pray accordingly as they switch styles, tank their hits, tick-eat (eat a shark, brew, and Karambwan in one tick), and teleport when you get to level 30 wilderness if not tele-blocked. Use Augury (77 prayer) if you can as it improves your magic defence by 25%, reducing your chance of getting teleblocked
Once you locate the black chinchompa spawn points, use the Tile Markers feature on RuneLite to mark those spots. This ensures you can consistently set your traps in the correct locations every time, maximizing efficiency.
The Player Indicators plugin on RuneLite helps you spot other players from a farther distance by highlighting their names or tiles. This is especially useful in the Wilderness, where you might encounter player killers (PKers). By identifying approaching PKers early, you’ll have more time to prepare your escape or defend yourself effectively, increasing your chances of survival while training.
Here are the exact locations where Black Chinchompas spawn. You should set your trap around these squares to get the best XP rates. The area is divided into 3 spots, each having four Chinchompa spawns as shown below.
Each black Chin catch gives 315 Hunter XP. Here are the XP rates to expect for different Hunter levels.
The GP per hour or catch rate players can get depends on their speed and their hunter level. The chance of a successful catch is approximately 148/255 at 73 and 228/255 at level 99. Overall, you should expect the rates below at different hunter levels.
