Bryophyta is the Moss Giantess found in her lair in the Varrock sewers, she is an ancient and mystical moss giant boss who can be easily killed with medium-level combat stats in both F2P and P2P, especially when using defensive prayers. She is quite profitable to kill, especially in F2P, but there are better moneymakers in P2P.
Players must first obtain a mossy key to access Bryophyta’s lair. The fastest way to get it is by killing moss giants, which drop it at a rate of 1/120 or 1/40 if the player is assigned to kill them as a slayer task. This key allows the player to enter the lair only once, and they would need to get another key to gain access again.
The Bryophyta’s lair can be found just north of the location of the moss giants in the Varrock sewers, players can get to it through the Varrock sewers or by the agility shortcut from the Edgeville Dungeon, the latter requires 51 agility. Players are also required to have a knife to slash a web when trying her lair from Varrock sewers.
It’s recommended to have the stats below before fighting Bryophyta:
Head slot: Rune full helm
Body slot: Green d’hide armour (for increased magic defence)
Weapon slot: Rune scimitar
Cape slot: Black cape
Shield slot: Rune kitshield
Neck slot: Amulet of power
Leg slot: Rune platelegs
Boot slot: Decorative boots
Body slot: Green d’hide armour (for increased magic defence)
Head slot: Coif
Weapon slot: Maple shortbow
Ammo slot: Adamant arrows
Shield slot: Rune kitshield
Neck slot: Amulet of power
Leg slot: Green d’hide chaps
Boot slot: Leather boots
The setup below is for players that have 60+ attack, 60+ strength, 40+ defence, 50 hitpoints, 40 ranged (higher is recommended), and have completed Dragon Slayer. If you don’t have these stats, then you should wear a gear similar to the one above for F2P
Head slot: Rune full helm
Neck slot: Amulet of glory
Body slot: Green d’hide body
Leg slot: Green d’hide chaps
Gloves slot: Mithril gloves
Ring slot: Ring of recoil
Shield slot: Dragon defender
Weapon slot: Dragon scimitar
Cape slot: Obsidian cape
Boot slot: Climbing boots
The fastest way to obtain the mossy keys is to kill Moss Giants in the wilderness in free-to-play, as they drop the mossy key at a rate of 1/60 in that location compared to 1/150 from Moss Giants in other locations. Since you are in the wilderness, you should take as little risk as possible since there is a chance of running into player killers. Players can get about 1 to 3 mossy keys per trip from killing Moss Giants in this location. The Location as shown above can be reached easily from the Ferox Enclave using the Canoe, but this requires 57 woodcutting.
You should bank often so you don't risk losing the mossy keys. If you run into a PKer, you should run to the Ferox Enclave or Grand Exchange to escape. Inexpensive melee gear like full rune armour should be used.
A good strategy for high-level players (80+ combat) is to set their respawn point to Edgeville, bring only a rune scimitar and bronze axe, and only pick up the Mossy key. Since at this level, the player can withstand the attacks from the moss giants, they need only a rune scimitar to kill them and if they die to Moss giants or Player Killers, they will keep the Mossy key, rune scimitar, and bronze axe, If you use this method, make sure not to pick up coins as you would lose the mossy key if your character dies.
Upon entry into the Bryophyta’s Chambers, she will immediately attack the player. Players should be ready and turn on Protect from Magic before entering. The fight happens in an instance area, meaning that a new copy of the location is generated for each player that enters the area. She attacks mainly with magic and melee. Additionally, she will use the attacks below
On members world, the Bryophyta can poison the player and damage them for 8, players can reduce the damage from this attack by using protection against poison like the antipoison potions.
The Bryophyta might spawn three Growthlings during the fight, which will start to attack the player. She is capable of summoning them multiple times during the fight, however, only three growthlings can be in the lair at any given time. The Bryophyta would be immune to all the player’s attacks except poison and venom until the growthlings are killed
They are quite easy to kill and players can damage them with any weapon, however, an axe or a pair of secateurs is needed to finish them off once their hitpoints reach one or zero. Any axe except the blessed axe should be used to finish them off. To finish them off with Secateurs, players should use it on them and not wield it. Players can find a bronze axe from the pile of logs found in Bryophyta’s lair if they do not bring one.
If using melee, players should wear the recommended gear shown above, as this can do the most damage to the Bryophyta in F2P. While using a rune scimitar and full rune or green d’hide armour, players can kill 4 to 7 Bryophyta per trip. Players should use ranged if they have lower than 50 defence but at least 60 ranged, 40 defence, and 37 prayer.
The Bryophyta does not move toward the player, so it’s easy to maintain a safe distance from her while using ranged. She will attack the player with magic when they are not within her reach, which would deal only little damage if protect from magic turned on.
In P2P, Players can use magic to fight Bryophyta due to the bonus from wearing the void When using melee or ranged, the mechanics are similar to F2P discussed above but better gear as shown above should be used to increase your damage.
In both P2P and F2P, players should use good food like sword fish and optionally bring a strength potion. Also, players should manage their prayer points to extend their trips. Using offensive prayers like incredible reflexes and ultimate strength is also recommended, but ensure to flick offensive prayer to manage prayer points
The average P2P Bryophyta kill is worth 123,775 GP. Players can kill almost 2 Bryophytas in one hour, resulting in over 210,000 coins per hour.
In F2P, The average Bryophyta kill is worth 124,245 GP
