OSRS Chaos Fanatic Guide: Strategy & Gear Setups

OSRS Chaos Fanatic Guide: Strategy & Gear Setups

The Chaos fanatic is a mage located west of the Lava Maze in level 42 wilderness. He is one of the few monsters that drop the ancient staff. He also drops one of the three shards required to forge Odium wards and Malediction wards. Furthermore, he is quite easy and profitable to kill, requiring only medium-level combat stats. However, the fight is in the wilderness, so players should watch out for Pkers, only bring items they are willing to lose, and always turn on “PK skull prevention”.

How to get to the Chaos Fanatic

The Chaos Fanatic can be found in the location shown below

Chaos fanatic's location

The fastest ways to get here include:

  • Ghorrock teleport: this requires 96 magic to use, it teleports the player to the Frozen Waste Plateau in the Wilderness.
  • Burning amulet: this can take the player directly to the entrance of the Lava Maze. They can run west from there to get to the Chaos Fanatic.
  • POH obelisk: this requires completion of the hard Wilderness Diary, players who have this in their POH can select the level 44 wilderness teleport.
  • Wilderness Obelisk: if you don’t have any of the options above, you can teleport to ferox enclave using the ring of duelling and then use the wilderness obelisk to get to level 44 wilderness.

  • 75+ ranged
  • 70+ defence
  • 37 prayer

It’s best to take only 3 or 4 valuable items when heading to the wilderness due to the risk of running into a PKer, the gear below is quite good but if you have better gear and can take the risk involved, you should use them

Inventory Setup for Fighting Chaos Fanatic

Inventory Setup for Fighting Chaos Fanatic

It comprises:

  • 1-2 Divine ranging potion
  • 4-6 Blighted super restores: blighted super restores can only be used in the wilderness, if a prayer cape or ring of the gods (i) is equipped or a prayer cape or holy wrench is in the player’s inventory, the prayer restore will be increased to +8 + 27% of the player’s current prayer level with the blighted super restore.
  • 1 Looting bag: The looting bag can hold up to 28 stacks of any item for longer trips. Tradeable items can only be stored while in the Wilderness.
  • Teleport method to Chaos Fanatic: preferably the Ghorrock teleport
  • Emergency teleport: a teleport that can used at level 30 wilderness like Royal Seed pod or amulet of Glory.
  • Wild pies or Summer pies: these are the best food to use, they heal 22 each and leave the pie dish in the inventory, which counters the disarming ability of the chaos fanatic. Alternatively, players can use Curry, which heals less than 19 hitpoints in one bite.

Strategy for fighting the Chaos Fanatic

Before entering the wilderness, make sure the player attack option is set to hidden so that you don’t get skull-tricked, and also check to ensure you have the right items that would be kept on death. The Chaos Fanatic has a high magic level and defensive bonuses, so it’s best that the player attacks him with ranged. He mainly attacks with magic and can do an attack every 2 ticks (1.2 seconds). Players will not take any damage from this attack if they use protection from magic. Except from this attack, the chaos fanatic can also perform the following attacks:

Green Special Attack

Chaos Fanatic's green Special Attack

Although the Chaos Fanatic is simple to kill, He has a special attack where he uses a green magical attack that explodes and causes much damage if it is not avoided. Players can easily evade this attack by moving away from where they were standing when he performed the attack.

Disarming Attack

Chaos Fanatic's disarming attack

The Chaos Fanatic can also disarm players similarly to the Chaos Elemental. Players can prevent this by using food that blocks their inventory space even after they are eaten like the summer pies, as the chaos fanatic cannot disarm them If there is no space in their inventory to store their weapons. If you’d be using potions, ensure that the vial smashing is turned off.

Players can also use a cannon to speed up their kills. Make sure not to risk too many cannonballs when using the cannon and don’t pick it up if you get attacked by PKers, leave it there, and you can retrieve it from Nuludion if you get killed.

chaos altar

There is an altar south-west of the Chaos Fanatic’s location where players can recharge their prayer after each fight, but this is a popular PKer spot. If you are experienced enough to escape Pkers in the location, It’s recommended to use the altar to restore prayer points to save costs on potions.

How to Escape from PKers when Fighting the Chaos Fanatic

Pkers can attack you only after the Chaos Fanatic has been killed. It takes him 9 seconds to respawn after he has been killed, so beware of your surroundings in case players are waiting for you to finish your kill before they attack.

If you get attacked, the best way to escape is to use the Wilderness Obelisk just north to teleport to level 13 wilderness, where you can teleport away using a regular teleport method. Alternatively, Players can run east into the King Black Dragon Lair which is not part of the wilderness, and use a quick teleport to escape
