OSRS Demonic Gorilla Guide: Stategy & Gear Setup

OSRS Demonic Gorilla Guide: Stategy & Gear Setup

Demonic Gorillas are first fought during the Monkey Madness II quest in the Crash Site Cavern, the same location where they can be found after completing the quest. These powerful creatures have a combat level of 275 and are known for their valuable Zenyte shard and ballista component drops.

Demonic Gorillas count as both monkeys and black demons and can be killed in their place when on a slayer task. As demons, they are weak to the demonbane weapons, excluding holy water.

Demonic Gorilla’s attacks

Demonic Gorillas use all 3 forms of combat which have a max hit of 30 damage. Protection prayers will provide complete protection against these attacks.

Magic attack

The Gorilla will rear up, dangle its forelegs, and emit a green orb from its mouth.

Melee attack

melee attack from Demonic gorilla

The Gorilla will swipe its claws downward at the player.

Ranged attack

ranged attack from Demonic Gorilla

The Gorilla uses its two front claws to grab a small boulder and throw it at the player.

Boulder toss

boulder toss from Demonic gorilla

This is the Gorilla’s special attack. It will toss a boulder that will appear above the player’s position. The player will take damage up to 33% of their health if they don’t move away from it. The Gorilla won’t use this attack when using melee, only when the player is at a distance, and it has an area of effect of 1x1.

Demonic Gorilla Mechanics

To effectively kill the Demonic Gorillas, players need to understand their 2 different mechanics; Attack style switching and prayer switching.

Attack style switching

Demonic Gorillas start with a random attack style and will switch to another attack style after they miss 3 hits except for the boulder toss against the player, regardless of whether the player’s protection prayer blocks them or not. Anytime they change their attack style, they will scream “Rhaaaaaa!” shown above their head.

Prayer switching

Each Gorilla can use any of the 3 protection prayers at a time; protect from melee, protect from magic or protect from missiles. It provides full immunity against that attack style but can be bypassed with a dragon scimitar or Verac’s set. The Gorilla will only switch protection prayers after it takes 50+ damage from the attack style it is not praying against.

Strategy for the Demonic Gorilla

Predicting the Gorillas' next attack style is impossible, but players can guess with a 50% success rate. If the previous attack was melee, switch to protect from magic or ranged. If it was magic, switch to protect from melee or ranged. If it was ranged, switch to protect from magic or melee. It’s best to count the number of hits to be sure when to switch protection prayers since they will switch after they fail to hit 3 times. Remember to switch to the correct protection prayer if you are wrong.

Since the gorillas will change protection prayers as mentioned above, be sure to carry two different combat types of equipment and switch accordingly. For the boulder toss special attack, simply move one tile away so you don’t get hit then continue attacking the Gorilla.

GP per hour from Demonic Gorillas

With the recommended stats above, players can kill 62 Demonic Gorillas per hour. This results in a profit of 5M GP per hour after the cost of supplies are deducted.
