OSRS F2P Cooking Guide: Leveling 1-99 Fastest

OSRS F2P Cooking Guide: Leveling 1-99 Fastest

Cooking is an important skill in F2P. It provides food for combat and a chance to make money. There are different methods to train it, with the faster ones usually being more expensive, while the profitable methods tend to give slower XP. It’s also a good idea to train Cooking alongside Fishing, as the two skills go hand in hand.

Fastest F2P Methods of Training Cooking

The XP rates you get from cooking the foods below vary depending on your cooking level and where you cook them. Check out our Best Place to Cook Food guide to find the most efficient spot available to you.

Level 1–15: Meat

meat

Cooking meat is the fastest way to get started with Cooking in F2P, offering 40 cooking XP per successfully cooked meat. In F2P, there are several types of meat to cook, with raw beef, dropped by cows being the most common. You can find meat lying around the cow field in Lumbridge or kill them there yourself.

XP per hour from cooking Meat

Players can get 42,000-47,000 cooking XP per hour from cooking meat at this level.

Level 15-20: Trout

trout

Cooking Trout gives 70 cooking XP, the highest any food can give at level 15. Players will find some Trout from players who drop them at the river near Barbarian Village, or they can catch it themselves at the river with a fly fishing rod and at least 20 fishing.

XP per hour from cooking Trout

Players can get 73,000-80,000 cooking XP from cooking Trout at this level.

Level 20 -25: Pike

pike

Pikes give 80 Cooking XP when successfully cooked—the highest XP from any fish at level 20 Cooking—but they are expensive and yield low fishing XP since they are generally harder to fish. It is ideal to cook them if you buy them in bulk from the grand exchange. If you want to catch the fish yourself, it is better to continue with trout till 30 cooking when Tuna can be cooked.

XP per hour from cooking Pike

Players can get 80,000-90,000 cooking XP from cooking Pikes at this level.

Level 25-30: Salmon

 salmon

Salmon gives 90 cooking XP when successfully cooked and has a reduced burn rate when cooked at the Lumbridge Castle range with Cook’s assistant completed, so you should cook them there. They can be obtained by fly-fishing at Barbarian village with 30 fishing and are mainly used as mid-level food since they restore up to 9 hitpoints.

XP per hour from cooking Salmon

Players can get 90,000-100,000 cooking XP from cooking Salmon at this level.

Level 30-35: Tuna

tuna

Tuna gives 100 cooking XP when successfully cooked, the highest between levels 30 to 35. The burn rate when cooking Tuna decreases as the player’s cooking level increases and will stop burning completely at level 63 on ranges and fires.

XP per hour from cooking Tuna

Players will get 104,000 to 117,000 cooking XP per hour from cooking trouts at this level while using fires from other players in grand exchange on popular worlds. Use ranges to get better XP rates.

GP per hour from cooking Tuna

At level 63+ Cooking, when players stop burning tuna, cooking them can yield up to 48,100 GP profit per hour.

Level 35-99: Jugs of wine

jug of wine

Making Jugs of wine is the fastest F2P method of training cooking. It does not require a range or fire. Instead, players can make jugs of wine by using a jug of water on grapes in their inventory. After 12 seconds, the unfermented wine will ferment and the player will receive 200 cooking XP.

If an unfermented wine is made before the 12-second timer runs out, the timer resets back to 12 seconds. This means that the cooking XP for all Jugs of wine will be awarded at once, 12 seconds after the wine-making process is fully completed. Before level 68 Cooking, there's also a chance to produce a jug of bad wine instead, based on your level, which grants no experience.

XP per hour from making Jugs of wine

Players can get between 470,000-490,000 cooking XP per hour at level 68 cooking.

Cost of making Jugs of wine

To reach level 99 Cooking from level 68, you'll need to make 62,147 jugs of wine which would require the same amount of Jugs of water, worth 1.6M GP, and grapes, worth 2M GP,  for a total loss of roughly 3.4M GP after the Jugs of wine are sold to the grand exchange. Jugs of water and grapes can be purchased in bulk from the Grand Exchange and combined at any bank.

Fastest Alternative F2P cooking methods

Level 1: Sardines

Sardines have no cooking requirement and reward players with 40 cooking XP when successfully cooked. The Gerrant’s Fishy Business in Port Sarim stocks 200 Raw sardines for 10 coins each and restocks quickly. Players can light a fire indoors using logs from the trees outside, allowing quick purchase and cooking of sardines.

XP per hour from cooking Sardines

Players can get 40,000-45,000 cooking XP from cooking Sardines at this level.

Level 35: Plain pizza

plain pizza

Plain pizza is made from one tomato, one cheese, and one pizza base. Pizza bases can be made using a pot of flour with a jug of water or bought from Fat Tony in the Bandit Camp for 4 coins each. Plain pizzas reward the player with 143 cooking XP when uncooked pizza is successfully cooked, but there is a chance to fail resulting in burnt pizza. When cooked, it contains 2 bites, each healing for 7, totaling 14 hitpoints.

Note: uncooked Pizza is not sold on the grand exchange so you have to make them yourself. If you already have them in bulk then you can get double the rates below.
