How to play the Hallowed Sepulchre

Concept

The concept of this minigame is that players must run through each floor while evading traps within a certain time. If they are unable to finish within the specified time, they will be allowed to finish the current floor and gain agility experience but will not be able to loot coffins or go to the next floor. The game gives the player 2 minutes on the timer to complete the first floor, an additional 2 minutes is added to the timer when climbing down to each lower level.

Every time the player gets past the final obstacle on each floor, the timer is paused. This area always contains magical obelisks which restores the player’s run energy if they have a Saradomin item equipped. The timer for each floor can be extended using the Hallowed tokens. If a player dies inside the Hallowed Sepulchre, their items will be held by the Mysterious Stranger in the lobby.

Evading Traps

Learning to evade traps is the most important aspect of Hallowed Sepulchre, though these traps can look challenging at first, especially on deeper floors, they usually appear in a cyclic pattern which can be avoided with accurate clicks and timing. If the player runs into a trap, they will take damage and will be teleported a few tiles back, costing them time. Players who wear the hallowed ring will not take the damage.

Players need to practice for some period before they can successfully evade these traps consistently, so when starting out, it is recommended to carry food until they can purchase the hallowed ring There are different traps the player can run into, and the best ways to avoid them have been discussed below:

Wizard statue

These statuses shoot fire from left to right, there is always a tile gap between flames which players can stand on to avoid the flames.

Knight statue

Knight statue in hallowed sepulchre

A large Saradomin sword is thrown by these statues, the sword travels forward and back again in a straight line. These can be easily avoided by avoiding the line at which the sword is thrown.

Crossbowman statue

These statues fire a glowing bolt that travels along a straight path. On floors 1 and 2, the Crossbowman statues only fire a single bolt at a time but lower floors fire two bolts at a time. It is quite easy to evade this trap on the first two floors, however, more concentration is required on lower floors since players will have to avoid multiple traps at once.

Priest Statue

lightning in a 3 x 3 pattern can be summoned by these statues, if the player fails to evade them, they will be briefly stunned without taking any damage, but they will be unable to move, making them vulnerable to other traps.

Strange tile

Sometimes these traps can be helpful, they are coloured tiles that teleport the player a short distance when illuminated

Yellow tiles teleport the player backward

Blue tiles teleport the player forward.

These tiles can provide some level of invulnerability to other traps, and on deeper floors, they must be used to avoid the swords thrown by the knight statues.

Looting Coffins

Looting Coffins in hallowed sepulchre

Coffins are found on each floor of the Hallowed Sepulchre. They contain hallowed marks and other unique items and can be looted only if the player has completed the floor within the timer. At the end of the final floor, an additional coffin called the Grand Hallowed Coffin can be looted if the player reaches the end of Sepulchre before the timer ends.

Although no item is required to open the coffin, a lockpick will increase your chances of successfully opening the coffin. If a player fails to open the coffin they will get poisoned so players are advised to bring anti poisons especially if they have low hitpoint.

After avoiding traps on each floor, players also have to complete a skill challenge before they can access the coffins. Each of these challenges has different skill and item requirements, as shown below:

Broken bridges

Broken bridges in hallowed sepulchre

These bridges must be built using a saw, hammer, 2 planks, and 5 nails. There is a chance the player will fail when attempting to make these bridges causing the nail to bend, but using a hallowed hammer will remove the chance of failure. Only regular planks, oak planks, teak planks, and mahogany planks can be used with only steel, mithril nails, adamantite nails, and rune nails.

Saradomin brazier

These block some coffins with a holy barrier which can be unlocked by sacrificing two vampyre dust, rewarding 200 prayer experience. Players who wear the Hallowed symbol can unblock the holy brazier using only one vampyre dust.

Portal frame

These frames must be activated using enchantment spells from the standard spellbook, which grants the player 200 magic experience. There is a chance the player will fail to activate the portal frame, however, using high-level enchantment spells have a higher chance of success. Here are the spells that can be used to activate the portal frames:

Pillars

Pillars in hallowed sepulchre

these are usually found just before the area where the coffin is located, players must use a crossbow and mith grapple to cross them, there is a chance that the player will fail when attempting to do this but this chance is eliminated if the player uses a hallowed grapple.

Players will get rewarded hallowed marks for looting coffins. Hallowed marks can be used to purchase several unique items as shown below:
