OSRS Hunter Rumours Guide: Rewards & XP Per Hour (Ironman)

OSRS Hunter Rumours Guide: Rewards & XP Per Hour (Ironman)

Hunters’ rumours are similar to farming contracts and slayer tasks. Players can unlock hunter rumours by speaking to Guild Scribe Verity in the guild’s underground pub known as the Burrow. After that, they can get tasks to investigate a rumour about a specific hunter creature by speaking with one of the Guild hunters in the burrow. The player is awarded hunter experience and a hunter’s loot sack if done properly.

Hunter’s loot Sack

Hunter’s loot sack

These are items rewarded for completing tasks in Hunter’s rumours; it comes in four tiers, namely:

  • Hunter’s loot sack (basic): this is given by Novice guild master Gilman after completing a rumour from him
  • Hunter’s loot sack (adept): this is given by Adept guild masters Ornus and Cervus after completing a rumour assignment from him
  • Hunter’s loot sack (expert): this is given by Expert guild masters, Teco and Aco, after completing a rumour from any of them
  • Hunter’s loot sack (master): this is given by Novice guild master Gilman after completing a rumour from him

Playing the Hunter Rumours

How to skip Rumours

If you do not want a rumour given by any of the guild hunters, you can speak to another guild hunter, and he will give you a different one. However, the previous guild hunter’s rumor assignment will be stored, and if you switch back to him, you will be assigned the stored rumour again.

How to cancel Rumours

To cancel a Rumour assigned to you by any Guild hunter, switch your active rumour to another guild hunter and complete his rumour first. Then, before receiving a new assignment from any other guild hunter, speak to the original hunter who assigned an undesirable rumour, and he will assign a new rumour. The new assignment will not be stored if you switch your active rumour to another hunter before completing it.

How to reset all Active Rumours

If you don’t want any of the Rumours given to you, you should speak to Huntermaster Gilman to have all current rumour assignment reset. To do this, you must have an active rumour from the other guild hunters and a rumour stored on Huntmaster Gilman. When you attempt to switch from your active rumour to the one stored on Huntmaster Gilman, a prompt will appear asking if you wish to switch to his old rumour or a brand new one; select a brand new one to reset all the stored rumours.

How to block Rumours

You can block rumours by first getting the rumour you want to block from one of the guild hunters, and since guild hunters will not assign a rumour that another guild hunter already assigns, this essentially blocks the rumour. For a block to work, the rumour that you wish to block must be one that can be assigned by both of the guild hunters that are used for the block

How to get the same rumour consecutively

By default, the option to do this is disabled. However, players can speak to the Guild Scribe Verity downstairs in the Hunters’ Guild, as shown below, to toggle it on or off; this is advantageous as players can use this to consecutively get a desirable rumour assignment by turning it on after a desirable rumour and turning it off after undesirable rumour assignment.

How to Efficiently Play the Hunter Rumours

You need to strategize to maximize your experience rates and rewards. First, ensure you have at least 71 hunter, as getting reasonable experience rates below this level is challenging. Then, set up your block list, so you block the bad rumour assignments and get only the good ones. To get optimal experience rates, you should set your block list with the method below based on your hunter level.

Setting up a Blocklist at 71 to 93 hunter

Between 71 - 93 hunter, you should always use any expert guild hunter(Teco or Aco). Orange Salamanders are good rumour assignments, but you need to unlock the Necropolis hunter area since the other spots are not suitable for hunting them. Only Aco can assign the Orange Salamanders, so if you can access Necropolis, use Aco. Otherwise, use Teco.

Gilman assigns every possible rumour, so trying to get a good block with him can take longer. You should only use Gilman to block rumours if you will be doing Expert rumours for more than 7 hours since it will take you at least 7 hours of doing experts to break even on the extra time spent setting up with Gilman. It takes an average of 35 rumours to set up a block list with Gilman and 23 rumours if not.

How to set up Rumours without Gilman

Start with any expert guild hunter, Teco/Aco, and block any of these that come first: Sabre-toothed Kyatts, Sabre-toothed Kabbits, and Grey Chinchomas, the rumour you block with Teco/Aco will determine how you set up the rest of your block list.

If any of the expert guild hunters block the Sabre-toothed Kyatts, set the rest of the blocks in this order:

Adept guild hunter, Ornus: Sabre-toothed Kebbts

Adept guild hunter, Cervus: Grey Chinchompas

If any of the expert guild hunters block Sabre-toothed Kebbits, set the rest of the blocks in this order:

Adept guild hunter, Ornus: Sabre-toothed Kyatts

Adept guild hunter, Cervus: Grey Chinchompas

If any of the expert guild hunters block Grey Chinchompas, set the rest of the blocks in this order:

Adept guild hunter, Ornus: Sabre-toothed Kyatts

Adept guild hunter, Cervus: Sabre-toothed Kebbits

After these blocks are set, use the other expert guild hunter you did not use for a block to get rumour assignments.

How to set up Rumours with Gilman

Besides the blocked creatures above, Sunlight Antelope is also a bad rumour assignment; if you use Gilman, you should block them. You should start the setup with Gilman.

If Gilman blocks Sabre-tooth Kyatts, set the rest of the blocks in this way:

Expert guild hunter, Teco/aco: Sunlight Antelope

Adept guild hunter, Ornus: Sabre-toothed Kebbts

Adept guild hunter, Cervus: Grey Chinchompas

If Gilman blocks Sabre-tooth Kebbits, set the rest of the blocks in this way:

Expert guild hunter, Teco/aco: Sunlight Antelope

Adept guild hunter, Ornus: Sabre-toothed Kyatts

Adept guild hunter, Cervus: Grey Chinchompas

If Gilman blocks Grey Chinchompas, set the rest of the blocks in this way:

Expert guild hunter, Teco/aco: Sunlight Antelope

Adept guild hunter, Ornus: Sabre-toothed Kyatts

Adept guild hunter, Cervus: Sabre-toothed Kebbits

How to set up blocks with 91+ hunter

91 hunter unlocks master rumours assignments, which are better than the expert rumours; so you should use the master guild hunter, wolf if you have up to this level; here is how you should set up your block list when using master rumours:

Adept guild hunter, Ornus: Red Salamanders

Adept guild hunter, Cervus: Red chinchompas

Expert guild hunter Aco: Sunlight Antelope or Tecu Salamanders or moonlight moths

Expert guild hunter, Teco: Herbiboaar or Sunlight Antelope

Novice guild hunter, Gilman: Moonlight Antelope, Sunlight Antelope, Tecu salamanders, or Moonlight Moths.

Experience rates From Hunter Rumours

When using Expert guild hunters, experience rates range from 100,000 to 150,000 experience per hour.

When using Master Guild Hunter, experience rates range from 150,000 — to 220,000 experience per hour.

The experience rates depend on how well you set your blocks.

Rewards from Hunter Rumours

Hunter rumours give about 600,000 GP per hour when doing Master rumours and about 400,000 when doing Expert rumours. Rewards from Hunter rumours are gotten from Hunter’s loot sack awarded after completing any assignment; here are the rewards you can get Hunter’s loot sack, but you won’t be able to get all the items here unless you only use the expert guild hunter:
