OSRS Moons Of Peril Guide: Strategy & Gear Setup

OSRS Moons Of Peril Guide: Strategy & Gear Setup

The Moons of Peril consist of 3 spirits known as the Nagua imprisoned in Neypotzli, a prison located beneath Cam Torum, which is unlocked during the Perilous Moons quest. Killing them is not hard and can be done consistently with mid-level combat stats. Players will be rewarded with several valuable rewards and armour sets similar to the Barrows.

Quetzal Transport System

There are 2 methods to get there with the Quetzal transport system:

  • Players can take this transport system to Cam Torum’s entrance, and run north once inside. Only players who have a landing site there can do this method.
  • Players can use the Quetzal transport system to the Teomat and then run to the west of the mountain. With 47 agility, you should use the agility shortcut southeast then cross the bridges west of the city entrance.

Getting Supplies in Neypotzli

A great thing about Moons of Peril is that you don’t need to bring supplies, making it ironman-friendly. Neypotzli contains a selection of foods and potions that surpass those found elsewhere. Upon leaving Neypotzli, all food will disappear, and potions will be reverted into vials of water. You should only bring combat gear and emergency teleport. Players can obtain all tools to create potions, gather resources, and cook food from the Campsites they built during the quest. You can find different resources in the prison by searching supply crates.

Foods in Neypotzli

There are two food options available, both of which can be found close to the campsite

  • cooked moss lizardsCooked moss lizards: 30 cooking is required to cook this. It heals 33% of your cooking level or 50% of your hunter level, whichever heals less.
  • Raw breamRaw Bream: These are located in the Streambound Cavern. They require a big fishing net and 20 fishing to catch. Players with 30 cooking can cook raw bream to obtain a cooked bream.

Potion in Neypotzli

potion in Neypotzli

The moonlight potion is the only type of potion available in Neypotzli. It gives the effect of a super combat potion, divine super defence potion, and prayer potion at once, excluding the damaging effect from the divine potions.

How to make the Moonlight potion

Moonlight grub paste is the main ingredient in the Moonlight potion. It can be obtained by picking moonlight grubs from grubby saplings close to both campsites in either cavern. A vial of water and a pestle and mortar are also required.

Follow these steps to create the potion after finding the ingredients

  • Grind the moonlight grub into a paste with the pestle and mortar
  • Mix the paste with a vial of water to create the potion

The moonlight potion has 2 doses, but a higher herblore level increases the chances of creating an additional dose or two.

Preparation for the Fight

preparation for moons of peril

  • Run northwest to the earthbound Cavern and go to the nearest cooking stove.
  • Right-click the crate next to the cooking stove and collect Herblore supplies to get 2 vials of water and pestle and mortar. Next, collect from the grubby saplings, then make 2 moonlight potions.
  • Take hunting supplies from the crate, then move to the Moss Lizards hunting area shown above. Click the rocks there to set up a trap, then rustle the bush nearby to make 3 moss lizards run out and get caught in the trap. Catch the Moss lizards from the trap. Do this 3 times to get 9 moss lizards.
  • Run to the cooking stove to cook them. When cooked, each one turns into 3 cooked moss lizards

Combat Stats of the Moons

All Moons have a hit point of 500 and a maximum hit of 20. They have an attack level of 258, a strength and magic level of 100, and a defence level of 60. They have +100 melee defence to the combat style they are weak to, along with +500 magic and ranged defence. Furthermore, they can hit a lot harder than their combat level suggests if all three land and hit very high, up to 60 damage in one attack

Strategy For Killing Moons of Peril

  • You can start off in any order you want and don’t pray against melee as it does not affect the bosses.
  • Wait outside to see if there is a special attack going on before entering as you don’t want to start off with that.
  • Always move to the highlighted circle (sigil) to prevent rapid damage while attacking the boss in the center, before and after their special attacks
  • Study the bosses' mechanics below to prevent damage throughout the fight.

Mechanics of the Moons of Peril

You should be familiar with the bosses since you fought them during the Perilous Moons quest. Players can fight the bosses in their respective chambers alongside other players in the same room, but each player will individually fight the Moons and can’t be assisted by other players. The attacks of the moons have a unique rule where if one of the hits misses, all hits succeeding will also miss.

highlighted tiles moons of peril

Eight sigils surround the Moon, which represents the moon’s cycles. Eyatlalli will imbue one of the sigils during the fight. You should stand on the imbued sigil during non-special attacks or else you will take rapid damage which stacks and can kill your character. The sigil will rotate clockwise after the Moon makes two standard attacks. When it hits a full or new moon, the Moon will initiate a special attack. During a special attack, you can stand anywhere in the arena.

Players will be teleported to one of the 3 campsites when they kill a boss. If one of the bosses dies at the same as a player, the player will be teleported out of the fight with one health point and the fight will be considered a victory.

Mechanics of Eclipse Moon

mechanics of Eclipse moon

The Eclipse Moon can reduce all hitsplats dealt to her by 6 since it possesses the 6 flat armour. The hitsplats reduce by 4 during her clone special attacks, and she is weak to stab attacks.

Her Curse of the Moon will reduce your max hit by 12 or 8 during the Clone phase, stating “Binded by the Eclipse’s Moon’s light, your attack glances off its shield”

Eclipse Moon’s special attacks

She will alternate between the following special attacks:

  • Searing Rays: this is her new moon attack. A moon shield will appear, and you will be forcefully shoved behind it. She will start attacking you with rays of light which can be avoided by moving alongside the moon shield. The Shield will stop at every corner and make a complete rotation before the attack ends.

searing rays

You should walk behind the moon shield to prevent damage during this attack. While walking, you will move at the same pace as the moon shield. It will give you time to turn corners as it pauses at each one. So get behind the moon shield, then focus on walking around the arena. The moon shield will always cover you as it moves at the same pace. After this phase, the highlighted tiles (sigils)will show again so run to it.

  • Clones: this is her full moon attack. You will be shoved to the centre of the room and unable to move. Then, clones of the Eclipse Moon will spawn around you and begin to attack you, doing a total of 15 attacks, five cycles of 3.

clones for eclipse moon

To prevent damage, you should face your character to each clone as it spawns. Click the tile in front of the boss to avoid damage. This will send an attack back at the boss

Earthbound cavern

When Eclipse Moon has been defeated, you will be teleported to the Earthbound cavern. Click the east yellow dot to get to the Blue Moon.

Mechanics of the Blue Moon

mechanics of blue moon

When inside the lair, click on the highlighted circles (sigils) as usual to provide damage while attacking the Blue Moon. All hitsplats dealt to the blue moon increase by 5 since she possesses -5 flat armour. Her Curse of the Moon cancels your next attack. It occurs once enough stacks have accumulated:

  • At 3 stacks, a message in the chatbox will say “The Blue Moon pierces your defence. The Cold is starting to get in”
  • At 9 stacks, a message in the chatbox will say “ The Blue Moon pierces your defence. Your joints are starting to lock up”
  • At 18 stacks, the Curse affects the player, the chatbox will say “Your joints lock up as you go to attack. The cold is too much to bear!”

Blue Moon’s special attack

  • Weapon Freeze

this is her new moon attack. It will freeze the player’s weapon from their hands and place them into one of the 3 blocks of ice, which will glow with a blue hum. The player must break the block of ice without any weapon. The blocks will plant shards of ice which will shatter, dealing damage if caught in the radius. Players can’t wield other weapons until the block of ice is broken, and they will get 28 damage if they fail to break it.

weapon freeze

You should attack the block of ice without weapons while clicking away when the shards appear. When you have dealt enough damage to it, it will break, and you will get your weapon back.

  • Frost Storm: This is her full moon. Freezing storms are summoned and the 2 braziers at the ends of the chamber are put off. During the storm, the Blue Moon will heal herself.

frost storm

To prevent her from healing, relight the brazier and avoid the storms that deal damage and force you to walk for two ticks. Use the safespots on either side of the brazier.

location to blood moon

After the Blue Moon is dead, you will be teleported to the Ancient prison. You should right-click the cooking range there to restore your run energy. Run to the eastern yellow dot and click enter to get to the Blood Moon.

Mechanics of the Blood Moon

mechanics of blood moon

The Blood Moon is the toughest of all 3 as she heals quickly.  The Curse of the Moon will heal her up to 3x of the damage dealt. This is indicated by a pool of blood transferring from the player to the boss. Good tanking gear is recommended for this boss. All hitsplats dealt to the Blood Moon increases by 2 as she has -2 flay armour. She is also weak to Slash attacks

Blood Moon’s special attack

She will alternate between the following special attacks:

  • Blood rain: this is her full moon attack. The Blood Moon will disappear and blood will rain from above, which forms temporary pools of blood around the room. The boss will heal whenever you get hit by a blood pool while avoiding it will do small damage to her.

blood rain

You should avoid the pools of blood. This is quite easy then continue standing on the highlighted circle as usual.

  • Blood Jaguar: this is her new moon attack. Blood jaguars will appear around the room, with a damaging square of blood pools. The jaguar cam deal up to 15 hitpoints on the player.

blood jaguar

You should attack the Jaguar next to the highlighted tile and move at the right moment to avoid getting damaged by the Jaguar or the blood pool. Do one attack then click the blood pool as it is about the disappear, it takes some practice but it is easy after a few tries.

Ancient prison

After defeating the Blood Moon, you will be teleported to the Ancient prison again. Enter the door south to get to the Ancient shrine to obtain your rewards.

GP per hour from Killing the Moons of Peril

Players with the recommended stats and gear above can kill all 3 bosses 10 times per hour. This results in 2.6M GP per hour. All supplies and potions are from the Neypotzli, so no costs are deducted.

Rewards from the Moons of Peril
