The hill giant boss, Obor, is one of the easiest bosses in Oldschool Runescape to kill; hence, it's a nice spot for newbies to start bossing. This boss is one of the most profitable ones that is available for free to play because it drops runes, some rune weapons, and armor. Killing Obor is also the only method for ironmen to get a rune kiteshield unless they choose to smith one for themselves.
Obor can be found residing in his lair, which is accessible through the closed gates on the Edgeville dungeon's western wall of the giant hill area. A giant key is required to access Obor's lair, and you must always collect a fresh one any time you want to fight Obor.
You will initially be in a safe area once you reach Obor's lair. Take this time to get ready for the battle, as Obor will hit you as soon as you enter. Descend the rocks when you are ready to face Obor.
The fastest way to reach the Edgeville Dungeon is to use the Amulet of Glory to go to Edgeville and descend the trap door south of the Edgeville Bank. The Edgeville Dungeon is home to a variety of monsters. There are hill giants in the southern portion of this dungeon, which is free to play and Obor’s lair can be found south of the area, as shown below
As already mentioned, one giant key is needed for each entrance inside the Obor's lair. Killing hill giants is the most common method of obtaining the giant key because they have a combat level of 28 and drop the key at a rate of 1/128 or 1/64 when they are killed in the wilderness. In addition to hill giants, the following monsters and their rates of dropping gigantic keys are listed:
He is encountered during the Holy Grail quest, and he drops the giant key at a rate of 1/128
Cyclops can be found in the warrior’s guild and they have a chance of dropping defenders and giant keys. They have a combat level of 56 and are only available to members.
There is also a good chance to get the giant key when fighting the hill giant boss.
50 magic and 40 prayers would be the minimum stats needed to defeat Obor and you would need to use the snare method if you have a low defence. Although it takes longer, the snare method is highly recommended for players at a lower level.
If you would prefer to tank Obor's hits while using magic, then atleast 50 magic and 60 defence are recommended
For ranged, at least 50 defence, 60 ranged, and 40 prayer for prayer against missiles are recommended.
For melee, when compared to the other two (magic and ranged), it is slower. To kill Obor with melee, you should have at least 50 attack, strength, and defence.
When using magic but not the snare method, you would take a lot more damage so you should wear defensive gear to tank Obor's hits if you can’t afford to use the gear below and if you have a low defence level.

Obor can attack with both melee and ranged attacks, with a maximum hit count of 28 for ranged attacks and 22 for melee attacks. He also has the ability to knock you back while stunning you with his attacks. Obor has a combat level of 106 and a hit point of 120.
Since Obor is less resistant to magic attacks, using magic attacks is your best option, particularly if you are a beginner. Moreover, you should pray for protection from missiles, as they work really well, reducing Obor's damage by up to 50%.
Although it is much slower than tanking Obor's strikes, this strategy is very effective, especially for low-level players, as it would significantly lessen the damage you take during the fight. A magic level of 50 is required to cast the Snare spell, which has holding powers that stop opponents from moving for up to 16 ticks, or 9.6 seconds.
The technique is very easy to use; all you have to do is snare Obor and use offensive magic attacks on him while you run to the opposite corner. It is important to stay as far away from Obor as possible when using this method, so make sure he is close to the corner where you are standing before you snare him and run to the opposite corner
Since Obor can hit high fairly often, you would still take a considerable amount of damage even with this method, so you should bring a lot of food, especially if you have a low defence level.
Basically, this strategy is exactly what it sounds like; all you have to do is attack Obor from a corner, tanking his hits while praying against missiles or melee. While praying against missiles will save you more food, praying against melee attacks will remove the chance of being periodically stunned and knocked down by his melee attacks. You will take more damage if you pray against melee, but you won't be stunned or taken down, which will speed up your kills. Only players with good defensive levels are advised to use this strategy because of Obor's ability to hit hard and accurately.
There are 6 combat achievements available when killing Obor; they include:
Obor Novice: you only need to kill Obor once
Sleeping giant: kill Obor while he is immobilized
Fighting as intended: Kill Obor on a free-to-play world
Back to the wall: Kill Obor without being pushed back more than one square by his knockback attack
Obor Champion: Kill Obor 5 times
Squashing the Giant: Kill Obor without taking any damage from prayer.
