OSRS Shield of Arrav Quest Guide

Shield of Arrav is a quest in which the legendary shield of Arrav, the hero of Avarrocka, has been stolen by one of two rival crime syndicates operating in Varrock.

General Questing recommendations

• Enable RuneLite Quest Helper in your RuneLite plugin section. 
• Hold your space bar to skip through NPC dialog, and use number keys for chatting dialog.

Enemies to defeat

• Black arm gang: Weaponsmaster (level 23), or a friend to kill him for you
• Phoenix gang: Johnny the beard (level 2)

Requirements for Shield of Arrav

Another player: You need to team up with another player who is doing the quest as a different gang member to complete it. Join the Shield of Arrav channel and ask for help there if you don’t know someone who can help you.

Walkthrough of Shield of Arrav

• Talk to Reldo in the Varrock Castle library. Reply 1 to start the quest.
• Search the marked bookcase for a book. Make sure to click the forward button till the last page before going to the next step.
• Talk to Reldo again and reply 1.

Phoenix Gang

• Go to Baraek, located in the center of Varrock (near the fur stall marked with a bear fur icon). Talk to him and ask about the Phoenix Gang. He’ll first refuse, then offer to talk for 20 coins. Give him 20 coins, and he’ll reveal the gang is located in the south-east corner of Varrock.

• Go inside the hideout, talk to Straven. If you ask to join, he’ll mention the Varrock Herald—this is just a cover-up. Choose the dialogue option that says you know who he really is, a member of the Phoenix Gang. Straven will assign you a task: kill Jonny the Beard.

• Go to the Blue Moon Inn, find Jonny the Beard (combat level 2), and kill him. Note: If you use a Ring of Recoil, he won’t drop anything.

• Pick up the report that he dropped.

• Return to Straven with the report in your inventory. Talk to him, and he’ll make you a member of the Phoenix Gang.
• He’ll also give you the Weapon store key—save this for your Black Arm Gang partner.

• Look in the south-west corner of the hideout for a chest.

• Open it to get the left half of the Shield of Arrav. Important: You can only get one half and only before completing the quest.

Black Arm Gang

• To start the quest as the Black Arm Gang, talk to Charlie the Tramp in South Varrock.

• Talk to Katrine down the alley to the west. Reply 1, 1, 1, 1.

• Ask your Phoenix Gang partner to give you the Weapon store key they received when they joined the gang.

• Head to the south-east corner of Varrock, between the two pubs.
• Look for a small room just south of the rune shop—it has a locked door and a ladder inside.

• Use the key on the door and climb up the ladder. You’ll find the Weapons master upstairs.

• You must kill him before you can pick up the crossbows. If you try to take the crossbows without killing him, he’ll stop you. Once he’s dead, take two Phoenix crossbows.

• Bring the two crossbows back to Katrine. She’ll officially make you a member of the Black Arm Gang.

• Go upstairs in the Black Arm Gang hideout, where Kathrine is.

• Search the cupboard south to find the right half of the Shield of Arrav.

Finishing up

• Take your half of the shield to Curator Haig Halen in the Varrock Museum.

• He’ll take your shield half and give you two copies of half the certificate.
• Your partner, who has the other shield half, will do the same and receive the other half of the certificate.
• Trade one of your certificate halves with your partner to get the other half.
• Use one half of the certificate on the other to combine them into a complete certificate.

For Ironman Players

• If you're playing as an Ironman, you can't trade.
• Instead, you and your partner must 'use' your certificate/key on each other to complete the process.

Members can claim additional rewards by speaking to Historian Minas in the Varrock Museum: 5 Kudos, An antique lamp that grants 1,000 XP to any skill with at least level 20.
