OSRS Nature Spirit Quest Guide: Unlock Mort Myre

OSRS Nature Spirit Quest Guide: Unlock Mort Myre

Nature Spirit is a quest set in Mort Myre Swamp. In it, you help the nature spirit Filman Tarlok restore the Nature Grotto—his home—back to its former glory. It’s a great introduction to Mort Myre, an area you’ll visit often if you plan to continue questing.

Difficulty: Medium

Length: Short

General Questing Recommendations

  • Enable the RuneLite Quest Helper in your RuneLite plugin section. It will not only guide you through the quest but also highlight ghasts, which can be tricky to spot.
  • Hold your spacebar to skip through NPC dialogue and use number keys for chat options to move faster.

How Long it takes

Nature Spirit took me about 7 minutes to complete, though it might take longer if it’s your first time doing the quest.

Item Requirements for Nature Spirit

  • Ghostspeak amulet: Obtained from the Restless ghost quest.
  • Silver sickle: Can be bought from the Grand Exchange on a normal account.
  • At least 6 free inventory spaces

Ironman tips

Silver Sickle: Ironman accounts have to make this themselves. You’ll need 18 Crafting to do so. To create it, use a silver bar on a furnace while having a sickle mould in your inventory. Silver bars can be bought from the Silver Merchant in Ardougne.

Recommendations for Nature Spirit

    • 2 Salve Graveyard teleports:. Can be bought from the Grand Exchange for around 2K GP each, so they might not be worth it.
  • 2 Barrows teleport: To get close to Filliman. Also available at the Grand Exchange for about 3k GP each, so these might not be worth it either.
  • Combat gear to kill the Ghasts (level 30):They are easy to kill. I used Mithril armour and a scimitar, which requires 20+ melee stats, and they worked really well against them.
  • Food (5+ Lobster works)

Enemies to defeat

3 Ghasts (level 30)

Walkthrough of Nature Spirit Quest

Starting the Quest

Required: Make sure you’ve got your Ghostspeak Amulet, a Silver Sickle, and at least one prayer point.

Recommended: Salve graveyard teleport, stamina potion

  • Use a Salve Graveyard teleport and run north into the temple. If you don’t have one, you can run from Varrock—use the shortcut if you have 65 Agility. Once at the Paterdomus Temple, talk to Drezel and select options 1, then 1 to start the quest.
  • Exit through the Holy Barrier to the south and enter Mort Myre through the north gate. You will get a warning, ignore it.
  • Run south along the path shown below to the southern part of Mort Myre and cross the broken bridge to reach the Grotto. When in Mort Myre, you’ll encounter Ghasts that try to rot your food—if you run out, they’ll deal 3 damage. Just sprint past them; the longer you stay, the more your food will spoil. Use a Stamina potion if you run out of run energy.

Path to Grotto in Mort Myre

  • Try to enter the Grotto and Filliman Tarlock will appear. Talk to him and pick option 2.
  • Next, grab the washing bowl just west of him (shown below)

Washing bowl outside Grotto

  • Then, right-click to pick up the mirror from the same spot you grabbed the washing bowl, and use it on Filliman Tarlock. If you can’t find him, try entering the Grotto again.
  • Right-click the Grotto tree to search it, and use the journal on Filliman Tarlock, selecting option 4.
  • Head back to Drezel under the Paterdomus Temple—using a Salve Graveyard teleport will get you there faster.

Getting the 3 Items

Recommended: Armour (mithril armour and scimitar or better), food ( 5+ Lobsters) to kill Ghasts for next section

  • Head back into Mort Myre and cast the druidic spell when right next to a rotten log as shown in image below. A mushroom will grow—click the log to pick it up. (You’ll need at least one prayer point to do this.)

Rotten log

  • Run back south to the Grotto.
  • Use the mushroom on the brown stone(shown in image below) just outside the Grotto, then use the used spell on the gray stone(shown in image below nearby.
  • Try entering the Grotto so Filliman appears.
  • Finally, stand on the orange stone(shown in image below) outside the Grotto and talk to him—choose option 3 to have Filliman cast the spell.

Stones outside the Grotto

  • Enter the Grotto and search the smaller Grotto inside, as shown in the image below.
  • Filliman will now transform into a Nature Spirit. Talk to the Nature Spirit in the Grotto to have your sickle blessed and receive a druidic pouch.

Killing Ghasts

Required: Blessed sickle and prayer points

Recommended: Armour (mithril armour and scimitar or better), food ( 5+ Lobsters) to kill Ghasts if you forgot to bring it

  • Exit the Grotto, cross the broken bridge, and approach the rotten logs around the area. Right-click your blessed sickle and select ‘Bloom’ when near a log to make fungi appear, then pick them up. Collect at least three Mort Myre Fungi and use them on your druidic pouch to fill it.
  • Ghasts are scattered throughout Mort Myre and can be hard to spot, but if you look carefully, you’ll see them - an example is shown in the image below. They’re not difficult to kill—just be ready to eat or protect from melee if you can.

Ghasts

  • Use the filled druidic pouch on a Ghast to make it more visible and defeat it. Kill three Ghasts, then head to the Grotto in the south of Mort Myre. Search inside the Grotto and talk to the Nature Spirit to finish the quest.

Rewards from Nature Spirit

Rewards from Nature Spirit

  • 2 Quest Point
  • 3,000 Crafting XP
  • 2,000 Hitpoints XP
  • 2,000 Defence XP
  • Access to Mort Myre Swamp and the Nature Spirit altar, where you can replenish and temporarily boost your prayer points by 2
  • Ability to fight ghasts 3 meat pies and 3 apple pies unless they were rotted by the ghasts

The Nature Spirit quest opens up Mort Myre Swamp, lets you use the Nature Spirit altar to boost your prayer points by 2, and gives you the ability to fight Ghasts—super useful for a bunch of other quests and activities. Next, you’ll want to do Fairytale I - Growing Pains, which requires Nature Spirit and unlocks the fairy ring for easy teleporting across the game.
