OSRS Soul Wars Guide: Boosting Strategy

OSRS Soul Wars Guide: Boosting Strategy

Soul Wars is a minigame where two teams must face off to kill the opposing team’s boss. In the process, they will face off in the middle, usually to fight and prevent their enemies from crossing over. You must also kill monsters within the minigame to obtain fragments, which are used to give your team advantages. These fragments are the only thing that people drop when they die in this minigame; everything else is safe. Need help with Soul Wars? We've got you covered. Order our Soul Wars Services here.

  • 40 Combat level
  •   500 Total Level
  • Before playing, you must complete the tutorial with Nomad. Similar to Tutorial Island, just follow the prompts.

Basic Gameplay Mechanics

Two teams (red vs. blue) compete to defeat the opposing team’s avatar while protecting their own. In this case, I will choose the blue team:

Matches last 15 minutes.

You’ll collect soul fragments by killing NPCs or players

Deposit them into the central obelisk to weaken the enemy avatar.

  • Victory is determined by:
    1. Number of avatar kills.
    2. Obelisk control.
    3. Soul fragments deposited.

ㅤㅤ

There are two ways to play, you can choose to play purely one or both depending on the time and what is easiest at the moment, with this I mean that you can kill NPS for soul fragments but you can also focus on killing enemies from the opposing team, since they will drop the soul fragments that they have and you can use them in the obelisk to help your team more based on the effort of another!

Items in Soul Wars: What They Do

Barricado: A barricade can be placed to block paths. You can only carry one at a time, and only ten can be active at once per team. Barricades are useful for slowing or rerouting opponents, blocking access to key points like bridges or the path to the Obelisk.

Explosive Potion: Used to instantly destroy a barricade. If the opponent sets one in your way (or you want to clear one for strategic maneuvering), this lets you remove it quickly.

Potion of Power: Boosts your combat stats temporarily — acts similarly to combat potions. Good for gearing up or pushing through in fights. Useful when attacking players or the opposing Avatar.

Soul Fragment: These are the pieces you collect to weaken the enemy’s Avatar. You bring them to your Obelisk (if your team controls it) and offer them. Offering lowers the opposing Avatar’s Slayer requirement, making it easier to damage.

Bones (Soul Wars): These can be buried in your team’s base or at a graveyard your side controls. Burying bones has two benefits: it helps restore your Prayer points, and it has a chance to increase your team's Avatar level (Slayer requirement), which is helpful if the opposing team has already lowered theirs.

Inventory

At the start of each match, pick up from the supply table:

Potions (restore stats & prayer)

Bandages (healing for yourself & allies)

Boosting Strategy in Soul Wars

While you can play Soul Wars normally, the minigame is often used for boosting, where groups of players coordinate to maximize zeal gains with minimal effort. Here’s how:

1. Choose a Boosting World

  • Certain clan worlds or community worlds are dedicated to Soul Wars boosting.
  • These groups balance teams so everyone gets maximum zeal without “sweaty” PvP.
  • They usually talk to each other in a clan chat. Try to find out which one it is, and you're all set.

2. Don’t AFK Completely

  • You need participation credit to earn zeal.
  • Always:

    • Kill NPCs for soul fragments.
    • Deposit fragments at the obelisk.
    • Heal teammates with bandages.
    • Tag enemy players or NPCs for activity.

If you AFK for a long time in the match, you risk earning 0 zeal, so be careful.

3. Team Roles for Boosting

  •   Fragment Runners: Focus solely on killing NPCs & depositing fragments.
  •   Healers: Use bandages to keep teammates active & ticking contribution.
  •   Avatar Killers: Small groups coordinate to finish avatars when weakened.

By spreading roles, your boosting group ensures fast matches and steady zeal gains.

Gear & Setup

  • Use defensive hybrid gear (Void or tank gear) so you don’t die constantly.
  • Bring a decent melee weapon or a ranged setup for attacking long distances.
  • You can’t bring capes, but you’ll get enough supplies inside (potions + bandages).

Choose the best gear setup that you have, and remember that you don't have to limit yourself to using just one combat style; you can use ranged/magic or magic/melee, whichever you want!

Is Soul Wars Worth It?

  • For Pets & Cosmetics: Absolutely — Lil’ Creator is one of OSRS’s most unique and good-looking pets.
  • For XP: Boosting makes it competitive with Pest Control or Nightmare Zone.
  • For Fun/PvP: Casual play can be chaotic and nostalgic, but boosting matches with a clan is much more efficient and peaceful.

Zeal points

  • On average, expect 20–30 zeal per game, depending on participation.

Boosting groups can farm 100–150 zeal per hour, making it an efficient alternative to training combat skills directly.

Players earn Zeal points at the end of each game. These can be spent at Nomad’s Reward Shop on:

  • XP in any combat skill
  • Soul Wars pet (Lil’ Creator)
  • Cosmetics & charms for summoning pets
  • Spoils of war (loot crate containing PvM supplies and uniques)

The pet is the biggest draw for many players — and boosting strategies exist to maximize your odds of farming zeal quickly.

Rewards

Soul cape (2,500), Ectoplasmator (250), Spoils of war (30), Blighted entangle sack ×70 (10), Blighted teleport spell sack ×50 (10), Blighted vengeance sack ×50 (10), Blighted ancient ice sack ×30 (10), Blighted manta ray ×15 (10), Blighted anglerfish ×15 (10), Blighted karambwan ×12 (10), Blighted super restore (4) ×4 (10)

Conclusion

This minigame was introduced to the game in 2009 and later to OSRS out of nostalgia. While it's not as popular, it's still active due to its unique rewards like the pet, EXP rewards, and more. Although it's a bit more demanding than Pest Control, it offers variety to the game, and many people prefer this gameplay, which is why we've created this guide. Need help with Soul Wars?
