OSRS Temple Trekking Guide: Strategy & Rewards

OSRS Temple Trekking Guide: Strategy & Rewards

Temple Trekking is a somewhat forgotten but underrated minigame for many, as it's quite useful when using an Ironman account to gather some items and supplies. Likewise, main accounts aren't far behind and can also do so to earn money in the mid-early game. In this guide, we'll cover the requirements, how to get there, what items to bring, and, of course, how to effectively complete the minigame itself.

Requirements

  •   Quest: In Aid of the Myreque (mandatory to unlock Temple Trekking).

  •   Recommended: Darkness of Hallowvale – this lets you trek in both directions between Burgh de Rott and Paterdomus, instead of only one-way trips.

  •   Skills: No strict level requirements, but higher combat stats (60+) make it safer.

Location

Temple Trekking takes place between:

  • Paterdomus (north) – just west of Canifis.

  • Burgh de Rott (south) – unlocked during Darkness of Hallowvale.

Getting there

  •   Mort'ton minigame teleport or Mort'ton scroll (close to Burgh de Rott).
  •   Slayer Ring → Slayer Tower (near Canifis).
  •   Salve graveyard teleport (north entrance).
  •   Morytania Legs 3/4 (teleport directly to Burgh de Rott).

Gear & Inventory

You want to use the best melee gear available. Here is an example.

Example gear

  • Head slot: Obsidian helmet / Slayer helm (i)
  • Neck slot: Amulet of Fury / Amulet of Torture
  • Cape slot: Ardougne cloak / Fire cape
  • Body slot: Obsidian Platebody / Bandos Chestplate
  • Leg slot: Obsidian Platelegs / Bandos Tassets
  • Weapon slot: Zombie Axe / Dragon Scimitar
  • Shield slot: Best Defender
  • Ammo slot: Rada’s blessing
  • Glove slot: Barrows gloves / Ferocious gloves
  • Boot slot: Primordial boots / Dragon boots
  • Ring slot: Berserker Ring / Berserker Ring (i)

Inventory

  • Any strong melee weapon. A Dragon Dagger (p++)
  • Any silver weapon
  • Super combat potion
  • Stamina potion
  • Hammer
  • Knife
  • Rope
  • Axe
  • Prayer potions
  • Food
  • Any teleport close to canifis.

How Temple Trekking Works

You escort NPCs across Morytania, encountering random events/rooms.

  • Difficulty modes: Easy, Medium, Hard.
  • Tip: For efficiency, always choose the Easy route – faster, safer, and still yields great rewards.
  • NPC Companions: Each has different combat stats and can be healed with food if needed.

At the end of each trip, you’ll earn Reward Tokens, which can be exchanged for resources.

Rooms & Events Breakdown

Puzzles

  • Rope Swing: Cut 3 vines → make a rope → swing across.

  • Log Bridge: Chop 3 logs and repair the bridge.

  • Zombie Lumberjack: Kill zombies, collect planks, build the bridge. Zombies may drop Lumberjack outfit pieces.

Combat Encounters

  • Gas Cloud: Can be ignored, or killed with a druid pouch. Not worth fighting.

  • Shades / Juveniles / Snakes / Snails: Can run past safely. Not worth fighting.

  • Nail Beasts: Worth killing – they drop nail beast nails, useful for Sanfew serum. Profitable for mains, and essential for Ironmen.

Rewards

At the end of each trek, you’ll get a reward token. Rewards scale with difficulty, but easy treks are the fastest way to grind consistently.

Rewards list

  • Pure essence (max 660–1,320)
  • Bow string (max 300 – 21,900)
  • Silver bar (max 150 – 14,700)
  • Tarromin (max 30 – 44,860)
  • Harralander (max 30 – 49,900)

  • Watermelon seeds (max 40 – 4,800)
  • Raw lobsters (max 80 – 10,240)
  • Tome of experience (up to 4,015–5,005 XP)

Best Rewards

  • Bowstrings (100–200 per token): Best for Ironmen – saves hours of flax spinning.
  • Watermelon Seeds: Great farming XP and profit.
  • Herbs & Seeds: Useful for Ironmen farming & Herblore training.
  • Lumberjack Outfit: Dropped by lumberjack zombies. Grants +2.5% Woodcutting XP when the full set is worn.

Conclusion

As we could see, this minigame doesn't take long to learn. It's easy and intuitive once you know all its mechanics. These may seem like a lot, but with practice and consistency, you'll learn them all, and it can even become a semi-AFK method.
