OSRS Basilisk Knight Slayer Task Guide: Strategy & Gear

OSRS Basilisk Knight Slayer Task Guide: Strategy & Gear

Basilisk Knights are powerful Slayer monsters located deep within Jormungand's Prison, introduced with The Fremennik Exiles quest. They are a popular task for their good melee XP rates, consistent mid-tier loot, and the extremely valuable Basilisk jaw drop, making them an attractive Slayer option for both mains and Ironmen seeking upgrades or cash.

This guide provides a comprehensive overview covering requirements, location, fastest access methods, optimal gear, inventory, strategy, Ironman tips, and efficiency notes, ensuring you maximise profit and XP during your Slayer task.

Requirements

Quest completion: Must have completed The Fremennik Exiles quest to access Jormungand's Prison.

Slayer level: 60 Slayer is required to kill Basilisk Knights.
Item requirement: A Mirror shield or V's shield must be equipped to protect against their petrifying gaze attack, which otherwise drastically reduces your accuracy and damage.
Combat recommendations: High Attack and Strength (80+) are highly recommended for kill speed and efficiency. Defence of 75+ will reduce food usage.
Prayer: Level 37 for Protect from Magic is optional but recommended if you plan to AFK or extend trips.

Location

Where to find Basilisk Knights

Basilisk Knights are located in Jormungand's Prison, a sub-dungeon within the Rellekka Slayer Cave Dungeon. After completing The Fremennik Exiles, north-west of Rellekka, Charter talk to Haskell to reach the Prison area, and follow the corridor west to find multiple Basilisk Knight spawns in an open area.

Fastest Way To Get There

Quick travel options include

  1.   POH Teleport if your house is in Rellekka for immediate access, then run north-east..
  2.   Fairy Ring code AJR directly to the Slayer Dungeon entrance, then enter and proceed to the Prison area.
  3.   Slayer Ring teleport to Rellekka Slayer Caves (if unlocked), then run east.

Strategy for Killing Basilisk Knights

Step 1: Enter Jormungand's Prison with Mirror shield or V's shield equipped. Without it, their gaze attack will drastically reduce your accuracy, making kills near impossible.
Step 2: Activate Protect from Magic if you wish to AFK or minimise food consumption, especially with mid-level Defence.
Step 3: Focus on maintaining your buffs with Super combat potions for optimal DPS. Their max hit is 22 but with Protect from Melee or V's shield, damage is minimal.
Step 4: Keep an eye out for Basilisk jaw drops (1/5,000 chance), which can be attached to your Neitiznot helmet to create the Neitiznot faceguard, providing extra Strength and defensive bonuses and increasing your total DPS for all melee tasks.

Safespots for Basilisk Knights

There are multiple safe spots inside the Island of the Stone dungeon, such as:

Safespot 1

Safespot 2

This is a method by which many choose the option of using ranged and attacking them from afar so that basilisk knights can only hit them with magic and use prayer magic, not receiving any hits which makes it a more AFK method. You just have to be aware of the prayer.

Ironman section

Why Basilisk Knights are great for Ironmen

  •   Basilisk jaw upgrade: Extremely useful BIS upgrade for melee training, providing permanent Strength bonus.
  •   Consistent mid-tier loot: Runes, herbs, and adamantite bars support supply sustainability.
  •   Bones to Peaches can greatly extend your trips to save food if unlocked.
  •   Mirror shield vs V's shield: V's shield is obtained after The Fremennik Exiles and offers superior stats. Always aim to unlock it quickly.
  •   Rune items (battleaxes, longswords, kiteshields) are useful for High Alching to sustain your cash stack.
  •   Do not skip this task if you're aiming for the faceguard as an Ironman gearing milestone.
