OSRS Giant Mole Guide: Strategies, Gear Setup & GP Per Hour

OSRS Giant Mole Guide: Strategies, Gear Setup & GP Per Hour

The Giant Mole is a very easy, low-level boss that can be found in an underground tunnel in Falador. This boss is mostly killed for its Mole skins and Mole claws, especially by ironman. Killing this boss for its pet, which appears at a rate of 1 in 3,000, is also a smart idea because high-level players can kill it quickly.

Requirements

While there are no strict requirements to kill the Giant Mole, several stats and quests make your trips significantly easier and more profitable.

Recommended Requirements

  70+ strength

  70+ attack

  75+ ranged

  70+ prayer, for piety

Tip: finish the Falador Hard Diaries to obtain the Falador Shield 3; otherwise, you will have to traverse the dungeon to find the giant mole every time you want to kill it. This is especially necessary when you are trying to make money or get the baby mole pet, as it makes your kills so much faster.

Location

The location of this boss can be found in Falador, east of the Falador teleport. Next to the party room.

As shown below, finding the Giant Mole in Falador is simple. The tunnel's entrance, which is visible below, is only accessible by digging using a spade.

How to get to the Giant Mole

Here are the following ways to get to the Giant mole:

  •   The fastest teleport to use would be the Ring of Wealth
  •   Alternatively, you can run to the Giant Mole Dungeon after using the Falador teleport.
  •   If you have an ornate jewellery box in your POH, this can also be used to teleport directly to Falador Park.

Tip: The dwarf cannon is always optional; you can bring it or not, but it's very significant since it increases the number of kills per hour. So, you know, try it out and see if you find it comfortable. If not, you can also kill without it; it's not mandatory.

How to fight the Giant Mole

You don't need to be concerned about any special attacks from the giant mole. The mole can only inflict up to 21 damage with a melee attack, and it can burrow itself into another place. The mole only does this when its health is between 5 and 50%; if you attack it while its health is within that range, there is a 25% chance that it will burrow into a different area.

Make sure to bring along some prayer potions, stamina potions, and some combat-boosting potions. You can right-click on the hole where the mole is to see if there are any other adventurers there before going in. If so, you should switch to a different world to find one where there aren't any other players.

If you have the Falador shield with you when you enter the tunnel, an arrow will show you the precise location of the mole on the minimap as soon as you enter the tunnel.

Use the safe area with the cavern walls if your defense is low. You would need to use magic or ranged attack for this method.

If your combat level is high, you should use Dharok the Wretched's equipment. With this gear, you can quickly kill the mole. To optimally use this gear, lower your HP to 1 by using the locator orb or dwarven cake before you attack the mole. This will significantly improve your hits because Dharok's allows you to hit harder depending on how low your health is.

Money Making at Giant Mole

You should expect to get 40 -70 kills per hour and 600k - 1.5m worth of GP per hour.

The profit rate assumes perfect all kills per hour. Your actual profits may be higher or lower depending on your speed and luck.

Pet Hunting

The Baby Mole pet is one of the cutest companions in OSRS — and a reason many players camp this boss.

  • Drop Rate: 1 / 3,000
  • Average Time to Pet: 40–50 hours at 60–70 kills per hour

With simple mechanics and quick kills, the Giant Mole is one of the best AFK-friendly pet grinds in the game.

Tips for Efficiency

  • Complete Falador Hard Diary – This is essential for quick tracking.
  • Always Pray Melee – Prevents random high hits.
  • Use Locator Orb or Rock Cake – For optimal Dharok damage.
  • Bring a Cannon – Increases DPS and shortens chase times.
  • Repair Dharok’s at POH Armour Stand – Saves GP.
  • Turn off Sounds if the mole’s digging noise gets annoying!

Conclusion

The Giant Mole might not be the best boss to hunt down compared to others, such as the Corrupted Gauntlet, which is more difficult and offers better rewards. But at the end of the day, it's still OSRS content that can provide unique rewards, like the Baby Mole. Eventually, once you get the hang of defeating it, it can become a semi-AFK boss, and that's what makes it unique. With the right setup — Dharok’s or Twisted Bow, a Falador Shield, and some patience — you can easily turn this burrowing beast into a reliable mid-level money maker.

Good luck down there, and may the Baby Mole find its way into your inventory soon!
