OSRS Obor Guide: Strategies & Gear Setups for F2P & P2P

OSRS Obor Guide: Strategies & Gear Setups for F2P & P2P

This boss is one of the most profitable ones that is available for free to play because it drops runes, some rune weapons, and armor, and is the only method for ironmen to get a rune kiteshield unless they choose to smith one for themselves.

Whether you’re an Ironman hunting the Rune kiteshield or a casual player chasing the rare Hill Giant Club, this guide will walk you through requirements, strategies, gear setups, and tips to maximize your success.

Why Fight Obor?

Obor is the Hill Giant Boss found deep within the Edgeville Dungeon, accessible only by using a Giant Key. He’s designed for lower-to-mid-level players who want to try a solo boss encounter without the danger of losing gear to other players.

Requirements

A Giant key is required to access Obor's lair, and you must always collect a fresh one any time you want to fight Obor. Obor can be found residing in his lair, which is accessible through the closed gates on the edgeville dungeon's western wall of the hill giant area.

How to obtain Giant Keys

  • Dropped by Hill Giants.
    • Drop rate: 1/128 in Edgeville Dungeon.
    • Drop rate: 1/64 in the Wilderness Hill Giant area (greater risk, better rate).
  • Obor himself has a small chance to drop an additional key.

These aren’t mandatory, but strongly advised for efficient and safe kills:

  •   40+ Prayer – to use Protect from Missiles (critical for surviving his ranged stomp).
  •   Brass Key – for quick Edgeville Dungeon access.

  Melee Requriments

  • 50 Attack / 50 Strength / 50 Defence baseline.
  • Higher stats (60-70+) make kills significantly faster.

  Magic Requriments

  • 50 Magic (for Snare and Blast spells).
  • 50 Defence recommended for survivability.

  Ranged Requriments

  • 50 Ranged / 50 Defence baseline.
  • Higher stats (60-70+) make kills significantly faster.

Location

Obor’s Lair
Located inside the Edgeville Dungeon, behind the Hill Giant area’s gated section.

How to Get There

Quick route

  1. Teleport to Edgeville using an Amulet of Glory or travel from Varrock.
  2. Enter the trapdoor just south of the Edgeville bank.
  3. Run west past the zombies and hill giants.
  4. Unlock the giant gate using your Giant Key to enter Obor’s instance.

Tip: Always keep a Brass Key for quick dungeon access from the Edgeville side.

How to fight Obor

Obor can attack with both melee and ranged weapons, with a maximum hit count of 28 for ranged attacks and 22 for melee attacks. He also has the ability to knock you back while stunning you with his attacks. Obor has a combat level of 106 and a hitpoint of 120.

Since Obor is less resistant to magic attacks, using magic attacks is your best option, particularly if you are a beginner. Moreover, you should pray protect from missiles as they work really well, reducing Obor's damage by up to 50%.
