OSRS The Knight's Sword Quest Guide: Mine Blurite ore safely

OSRS The Knight's Sword Quest Guide: Mine Blurite ore safely

The Knight's sword is about Sir Vyvin's ceremonial sword, which his Squire accidentally lost. The player has to help him find a replacement without Sir Vyvin finding out.

Difficulty: Intermediate

Length: Short

General Questing Tips: Enable RuneLite Quest Helper in your RuneLite plugin section, hold your space bar to skip NPC dialog and use number keys for responses and bring some food if you’re planning to enter the cave.

Time to complete: It took me about seven minutes to complete the Knight's sword quest. It is fairly easy. You should expect to complete in the same time, even as a beginner.

Skill Requirements for the Knight's Sword

  • 10 mining.
  • Able to survive attacks from Ice Warriors (level 57) and Ice Giants (level 53).

Time to complete: About 8 minutes for me; could take longer if you’re not careful in the Blurite mine.

Item Requirements

For normal accounts:

  • Redberry pie

  • 2 iron bars

  • Any pickaxe

Ironman tips:

  • Redberry pie: Make it yourself by adding redberries to a pie shell and cooking it. I made mine in about 3 minutes.

  • 2 iron bars: Found north of Ferox Enclave in the Wilderness. Watch for PKers; I had to hop worlds twice to avoid one.

  • Pickaxe: Any pickaxe works; I used a steel pickaxe for speed.

Recommendations for the Knight's Sword

Varrock teleport and Falador teleport save a lot of running time. These items can be bought directly from the Grand Exchange. Ironman accounts have to run to these locations if they don't have the spell unlocked.

Walkthrough of the Knight's Sword

  • To start this quest, talk to the Squire in Falador Castle's courtyard. The fastest way to get here is with the Falador teleport. During the dialogue, select options 1, 2, 1, 1 accordingly to offer to get him a new sword, and he’ll suggest that Reldo, the Varrock Palace librarian, might know the location of an Imcando dwarf. Note: If you’ve already completed The Giant Dwarf, proceed directly to Thurgo. Otherwise, you must speak with Reldo before continuing. Your character will automatically tell the squire that you already know an Imcando dwarf.

  • Head to the Varrock Castle's library and talk to Reldo. During the dialogue, reply 2 and he will direct you towards the Mudskipper point.

Thurgo the Imcando Dwarf

  • If you haven’t made or bought a redberry pie yet, grab one now. I recommend getting two pies if you plan to do The Giant Dwarf soon after — saved me a return trip. Talk to Thurgo, just south of Port Sarim, and reply 2 during the dialogue to give him a Redberry pie.

Acquiring the Picture

  • Return to Falador Castle and speak to the Squire in the courtyard; he will mention a portrait of Sir Vyvin’s father. Climb the east ladder, open the door to the west, and go up the staircase just west of the ladder on the first floor. Search the southern cupboard, but ensure Sir Vyvin is in a different room. If he’s present, either wait for him to leave or hop worlds until you find one where he isn’t in the same room.

Mining Blurite

  • Return to Thurgo in the Mudskipper point with the portrait. Reply 1 during the dialogue to give him the portrait then Climb down the ladder that is northeast of Thurgo to obtain a Blurite ore. Be prepared as all enemies in the cave are aggressive. It's recommended to bring food to stay alive if you don't have protection prayers. If you plan to bring armour, plate armour or other slash-resistant gear is recommended, since most cave enemies use slashing attacks.. Tip: When you see snow or ice ahead, be ready to run. I found it easiest to stick to the southern walls to find blurite ores — the rocks are bright blue. Mine one or two ores if you want your own sword, then run out when you have enough. If you’re planning to do the Falador Achievement Diaries, mine an extra blurite ore, as it’s needed for one of the easy tasks. It took me about 15 seconds to mine enough with 10 mining.
  • I recommend using the ice spikes on the floor to trap the monsters so they can't reach you when mining. I did this and took zero damage when mining.

Finishing the Quest

  • Go to Thurgo with the Blurite ore and 2 iron bars. Reply 1 and he will make you a sword. If you want a sword for yourself, drop it and ask Thurgo for a replacement, then pick up the second sword again. Return to the Squire to finish the quest.
  • Using teleports instead of running between Falador, Port Sarim, and Mudskipper Point saved me about 10 minutes.

Congratulations! You have completed the Knight's sword.

Rewards from the Knight's Sword

Rewards from the Knight's sword

  • 1 Quest point
  • 12,725 Smithing XP
  • A blurite sword (if you had Thurgo make an extra one)
  • The ability to smelt blurite ore into blurite bars (members only)

The Smithing experience from this quest is substantial. If you start at level 1 Smithing, you’ll reach level 29 by the end of the quest. If you begin at level 15 (to smelt iron bars), you’ll advance to level 31.
