OSRS Barbarian Training Guide

Welcome to this guide on the Barbarian Training mini-quest in Old School RuneScape! This quest unlocks nine new skilling methods and is a prerequisite for several hard and elite diary tasks. This guide covers requirements, methods, and step-by-step instructions to complete Barbarian Training efficiently. •   48 Fishing, 15 Strength, 15 Agility (Fishing rod)
•   55 Fishing,   35 Strength (Barehanded fishing)
•   15 Farming (Barbarian Farming)
•   4 Herblore (Barbarian Potion Mix)
•   5 Smithing and completion of Tai Bwo Wannai Trio (Spear & Hasta)
•   35 Firemaking (Bow firemaking)
•   Ability to kill mithril dragons (combat level 100+ recommended, anti-dragonfire gear needed)

Getting Started

• To begin, speak with Otto Godblessed, who is located west of the Gnome Stronghold and south of the Barbarian Outpost.

• Speak to Otto and choose: “I seek more knowledge.”
  

From here, you’ll unlock the nine techniques one by one to complete the miniquest.

Barbarian Training Techniques

Fishing Techniques

• Leaping Fish: This technique requires 15 Strength, 15 Agility, and 48 Fishing. Talk to Otto, then search his bed to find a heavy fishing rod. Use the rod at a fishing spot to catch a leaping fish. You will need this fish for the herblore task later. After completing this step, be sure to talk to Otto so you can move on to the next one.

Barehand Fishing: This requires 35 Strength and 55 Fishing. After talking to Otto, travel to any harpoon fishing spot (such as one found at the Amulet of Glory Karamja teleport fishing spot. Select the harpoon option on the water to catch a fish with your bare hands. After completing this step, be sure to talk to Otto so you can move on to the next one.

Farming Techniques

• Dibberless Farming: This method requires you to plant seeds without using a seed dibber. Travel to any farming patch and plant your seeds by hand. After completing this step, be sure to talk to Otto so you can move on to the next one.

• Pot Smashing: This requires 15 Farming and any sapling. Go to a tree patch or fruit tree patch and plant your sapling. The act of planting will destroy the pot, completing the task. After completing this step, be sure to talk to Otto so you can move on to the next one.

• Herblore Technique
• Barbarian Herblore: Use a knife on a leaping fish to get Roe. Then, use the Roe on a 2-dose Attack potion to complete the task. After completing this step, be sure to talk to Otto so you can move on to the next one.

• Smithing Techniques
• Spear Smithing: To learn this, you must have completed the quest Tai Bwo Wannai Trio and have at least 5 Smithing. Use a log and a metal bar on the Barbarian Anvil, located just south of Otto’s Grotto, to create a spear. After completing this step, be sure to talk to Otto so you can move on to the next one.

• Hasta Smithing: After making a spear and talking to Otto again, use the Barbarian Anvil once more to create a hasta. After completing this step, be sure to talk to Otto so you can move on to the next one.
• Firemaking Techniques
• Firemaking with a Bow: This requires 35 Firemaking. Use any bow on any logs to light them on fire, make sure you're out of Otto's house, or you won't be able to. This task is a requirement for the Kandarin Hard Diary and gives you access to the Ancient Cavern. After completing this step, be sure to talk to Otto so you can move on to the next one.

• Chewed Bones Pyre: This is the final task. It requires you to make a pyre ship using chewed bones, an untradeable drop from Mithril Dragons in the Ancient Cavern. To enter the Ancient Cavern, you must have already started this firemaking task and then jump into the whirlpool at the pier near Otto’s Grotto. Once inside, you can kill Mithril Dragons to obtain the Chewed bones. With the bones and some logs, return to the pier to construct the pyre ship and summon a peaceful barbarian spirit to complete the mini-quest. Note that using Magic logs and Chewed bones is a requirement for the Kandarin Elite Diary and requires 85 Firemaking and Crafting.
