OSRS Daddy's Home Miniquest Guide: Build Your First House

OSRS Daddy's Home Miniquest Guide: Build Your First House

Daddy’s Home is a short, beginner-friendly miniquest that introduces you to the Construction skill. There are no quest or skill requirements, and by the end of it, you’ll unlock your Player-Owned House and get enough XP to jump straight to level 8 Construction. I always recommend doing this miniquest first before training Construction—it saves time and gives you a solid head start.

Difficulty: Easy
Length: Very short
Time to complete: ~4 minutes

Main benefit: Unlocks Construction + gives you a free POH

Before You Start

For the smoothest experience:

  • Enable RuneLite Quest Helper — it highlights all the furniture you need to destroy or build.

  • Hold the spacebar to skip dialogue quickly.

  • Use number keys to select chat options; they also work while building furniture.

Item Requirements

  • Nails (you will use several — I usually bring atleast at least 20–30 to avoid running out)
  • Hammer: Can be obtained during the quest.
  • 3 waxwood logs (found in Yarlo’s kitchen crates)
  • 5 bolts of cloth (Can be bought from Sawmill operator for 350 coins)
  • Coins for:
    • Sawmill conversions
    • Bolts of cloth
    • Extra nails (optional)

Recommendations

  • Varrock Teleport: I recommend using a Varrock teleport to start the quest, or the Chronicle if you have one — both get you there quickly.
  • Lumberyard teleport
  • Stamina potion: especially if you don't have Lumberyard teleport

Daddy’s Home Walkthrough

I recommend you bring all items required when starting so you don't have to go to the bank throughout the quest.

Start the Miniquest

  • Teleport or run to Varrock and speak to Marlo, located northeast of Varrock Square near the Castle as shown in the image below.

marlo

  • Choose dialogue options: 2 → 3 → 3 → 3.
  • Marlo sends you to Old Man Yarlo in south Varrock, just southwest of Aubury’s Rune Shop. Talk to him to begin the renovation.

 Yarlo

Remove the Old Furniture

Yarlo asks you to clear out his ruined house. Quest Helper makes this part really easy by highlighting everything.

Check out the image above to see the locations of all the furniture that you should destroy.

Right-click each furniture and click "destroy" to destroy the furniture.

Destroy the following:

Furniture

Materials Needed

XP

Carpet

3 bolts of cloth

45 XP

Wooden Stool ×2

30 XP each

6 planks + 8 nails total

87 XP each

Wooden Chair

2 planks + 2 nails

58 XP

Waxwood Bed

3 waxwood planks + 2 bolts of cloth

207 XP

After removing everything, talk to Yarlo again. a short Construction demonstration cutscene will start.

Rebuild the House

Now rebuild everything you just destroyed. You might fail occasionally if you run out of nails, which is why bringing extras helps.

Important:
Everything can be built immediately except the bed, which needs waxwood planks.

How to get waxwood planks

Search the kitchen crates to get 3 waxwood logs.

  • Convert the waxwood logs into planks at the sawmill.

Return to the house and finish building the following:

  • 2 tables
  • Carpet
  • Chair

Talk to Yarlo once everything is built.

Why I Always Recommend Daddy’s Home

This is hands down one of the fastest ways to unlock Construction and skip the slow early levels. The free materials alone make it worth doing, especially if you’re new or playing Ironman. If you’re planning to train Construction at all, this miniquest should always be your first stop.
