OSRS Sheep Shearer Quest Guide: Ironman-friendly

OSRS Sheep Shearer Quest Guide: Ironman-friendly

Sheep Shearer is another classic early-game OSRS quest. It’s simple, requires no combat, and takes only a few minutes to complete. Your job is to help Fred the Farmer by collecting wool from his sheep and turning it into balls of wool.

This quest is perfect for brand-new players and ironman because it gives early Crafting XP and teaches you how to use the spinning wheel.

General Questing Tips

  • Enable RuneLite Quest Helper (RuneLite → Plugins → Quest Helper) – it’ll guide you straight to the items and NPCs needed for this quest.

  • Hold the spacebar to speed through dialogue – most conversations are short, so you won’t need it for long, but it helps skip repeated lines.

  • Use number keys to select options quickly – perfect for choosing the right dialogue without misclicks, especially in fast-paced steps.

Time to complete:

  • Normal accounts: seconds
  • ironman: 3–4 minutes

Item Requirements for Sheep Shearer

  • 20 balls of wool

ironman must make these themselves. Normal accounts can simply buy them from the Grand Exchange.

Sheep Shearer Guide for Regular Accounts

If you’re on a normal account, just buy 20 balls of wool from the Grand Exchange.
Then walk north of Lumbridge to Fred the Farmer’s house, hand over the wool, and finish the quest instantly.

If you are using ironman or want to obtain the items yourself, follow the full walkthrough below.

Start the Quest

Go to Fred the Farmer, you can find his location on the map below. He is located north of Lumbridge. Talk to him and select 1, then 1 to accept the quest.  He will hand you a pair of shears.

Important locations in Sheep shearer

Shear Sheep Until You Have 20 Wool

  • Use the stile east of Fred’s house shown in the image above to hop into the sheep pen.
  • Start clicking the sheep to shear them — it’s almost instant, so you can move fast. Just steer clear of the ram; if you click it, you’ll just end up fighting off the Ram instead of gathering wool.
In about a minute, you should have your full stack of 20 wool ready to go.

Spin the Wool Into Balls of Wool

  • Go back to Lumbridge Castle and climb to the middle floor.
  • Use the spinning wheel to spin all 20 wool into 20 balls of wool. If you’re an Ironman, I recommend making at least one extra ball of wool—these are needed for several useful early-game amulets, like the Amulet of Defence and the Games Necklace, both of which will help a lot as you progress.
