OSRS Death Plateau Quest Guide: Ironman-friendly

OSRS Death Plateau Quest Guide: Ironman-friendly

Death Plateau is a short quest where you help the Burthorpe Imperial Guard access the Death Plateau to defeat hostile trolls. It’s quick, easy and perfect for ironman accounts seeking quest points and early Attack XP.

Enable RuneLite Quest Helper for step-by-step guidance. Press spacebar to skip dialogue and use number keys for faster chat options.

Completion time: It took me about 8 minutes with teleports.

Item Requirements

Regular Accounts

  • 60 coins
  • Premade Blurberry Special
  • Iron bar
  • Bread
  • Trout

Ironman Accounts

  • 60 coins
  • Premade Blurberry Special: Buy it from the Barman on the 2nd floor of the Burgh de Rott Bar in Gnome Stronghold (just climb the stairs from the bottom and turn east).

  • Iron bar: Smelt it yourself from iron ore at any furnace.

  • Bread: Pick some up from Wydin’s food store in Port Sarim.

  • Trout: Catch a few using fly-fishing—it’s quick and easy.

Recommendations

Games Necklace: I highly recommend getting this early, especially on Ironman. You’ll be making several trips to Burthorpe and Taverley, and it’s by far the fastest way to get around. It only requires 7 Magic and 22 Crafting to make, but it’ll save you a lot of time. If you don’t want to craft it yet, use the Burthope games room grouping teleport.

Quest Walkthrough

Start the Quest

  • Teleport to Burthorpe however you like, then head southeast of the Warriors’ Guild to find Denulth in his tent (see map below).

Location of Denuth

  • Select dialogue options 1 → 1 to start.
  • Your task: find a new route to the Death Plateau and access the locked equipment storage.

Gathering Information

  • Make your way to Burthorpe Castle, north of Denult's tent and climb the stairs to the top floor (shown in the image below) to talk to Eohric. He mentions that Harold, the guard from last night, is at The Toad and Chicken pub, just southeast of the castle

Going to Eohric

  • Head upstairs in the pub, go to the west room, and talk to Harold—he’s a bit reluctant to share the combination. Fun side note: the pub’s basement is actually the Rogue’s Den, where you can play the rogue's den minigame to obtain the iconic Rogue outfit.

Going to Harold

Gambling With Harold

  • Return to Eohric → he suggests beer and gambling to loosen Harold.
  • Give Harold Asgarnian Ale or a Premade Blurberry Special to make him drunk. You can find Asgarnian ale in the pub as shown in the image below.

Asgarnian ale

  • Play dice games until Harold is out of money → he gives an IOU, which reveals the storage room combination on the back.

Tip to skip gambling: I usually give Harold a Blurberry Special or a Premade Blurberry Special to get him drunk. While tipsy, he miscounts the dice, so you automatically win because he thinks you’re using all four dice.

If you prefer to gamble normally: start with 100 coins, double your bet after a loss, and reset to 100 after a win.

Storage Room Puzzle

  • Return to Burthorpe Castle → pick up 5 coloured stone balls (yellow, green, blue, red, purple).
  • Place them in the holes in the same order as shown in the image below.

placing coloured balls

Note: Read the IOU/combination before placing balls, otherwise the door won’t open.

Finding a New Route

  • Head to the cave northwest of Burthope in map below and speak with Saba about an alternative route.

Cave, northwest Burthope

  • Once you exit the cave, follow the path west, then south—avoid the northern path since trolls patrol there.

Tenzing

  • Enter the house at the end (shown in the image above) and chat with Tenzing. He’ll tell you he needs 10 loaves of bread and 10 cooked trout for the secret way map—and he’ll give you the Climbing Boots.
  • Heads up: if your inventory is full, he won’t hand over the boots.

Creating Spiked Boots

Take Climbing Boots to Dunstan (north-east Burthorpe) along with an iron bar. To save some time, just teleport back to Burthorpe—you’ll get there fast, and games necklaces are cheap anyway.

Dunstan

  • He converts them into Spiked Boots. If you already have spiked boots, Dunstan won’t make duplicates.

Finishing the Quest

Items Needed: 10 loaves of bread, 10 cooked trout, combination, Tenzing’s spiked boots

  • Return to Tenzing, hand over all items at once (bread and trout un-noted).
  • Receive the Secret Way map.
  • Exit Tenzing’s house → climb stile → follow path north then east, past mountain goat and rock shortcut. Ignore warning popups; trolls only appear on the normal path till you reach point shown in image below

Death Plateau warning

  • Return to Denulth with the Combination + Secret Way map to complete the quest.

Tip: Lost combination or map? Reclaim from Harold or Tenzing.

Rewards from Death Plateau

Rewards from Death Plateau

  • 1 Quest Point
  • 3,000 Attack XP
  • Some steel claws + ability to make claws
  • Completion unlocks Secret Path to Troll Stronghold

The Attack XP and steel claws from Death Plateau give a solid early-game combat boost, helping players prepare for tougher encounters ahead. Completing the quest also unlocks access to Troll Stronghold, opening the path to several important mid- to high-level quests in the Troll Stronghold questline.
