OSRS Death Plateau Quest Guide: Tips, Tricks & Rewards

OSRS Death Plateau Quest Guide: Tips, Tricks & Rewards

Death Plateau is a short quest where the player helps the Burthorpe Imperial Guard gain access to the Death Plateau to defeat hostile trolls.

General Questing Tips: Turn on the RuneLite Quest Helper to get clear, step-by-step guidance during any quest. Tap the spacebar to breeze through dialogue, and use number keys to pick chat options instantly.

How long it takes: It took me about eight minutes to complete the Death plateau quest.

Item requirements for Death Plateau

  • 60 coins
  • Premade Blurb
  • Iron bar
  • Bread
  • Trout

Obtaining required items for ironman

  • 60 coins
  • Premade blurb: This cannot be bought from the Grand Exchange. They can be bought from the Barman in the Burberry bar in Gnome Stronghold for 30 GP. The Burberry bar is on the 2nd floor in the Gnome stronghold. Climb up the stairs from the bottom, then turn east.

Burberry bar

  • Iron bar: Can smith from iron ore in a furnace.
  • Bread: can be bought from a Wydin's food store in Port Sarim.
  • Trout: can be obtained by fly-fishing.

Walkthrough for Death Plateau

  • Head to Denulth, who can be found in the tent just south-east of the Warriors’ Guild in Burthorpe, or directly south of the Burthorpe Games Room. Select options 1 and 1 during the dialogue to accept the task and start the quest. Your task now is to find an alternative route to the Death Plateau and gain access to the equipment storage room, which is locked with a combination code lost by the previous night’s guard.

Location of Denuth

  • Head to the top floor of Burthorpe Castle and speak with Eohric. He’ll inform you that last night’s guard, Harold, is at The Toad and Chicken pub in Burthorpe. Make your way to the pub south-east of the castle, go upstairs, and head west to find him. Try talking to Harold, but he’s reluctant to discuss the combination.

Going to Eohric

Harold can be found in the location below.

Going to Harold

  • Return to Eohric and talk to him. He suggests that a bit of beer and some gambling might help Harold get over his guilt. Head back to Harold and buy him an Asgarnian ale (or take one from the table downstairs), then speak with him again. He will admit that he lost the combination and has searched everywhere without success.

Asgarnian ale

Tip: You can give Harold a Blurberry Special or Premade Blurberry Special to make him drunk. Once he’s unable to count properly, you’ll automatically win all the dice games, as Harold will mistakenly believe you’re using all four dice.

  • Ask Harold if he wants to gamble. Make sure you have a decent stack of coins, as you need to keep winning until he’s out of money. You may lose a few times, so keep trying. You’ll only get an IOU when betting between 60 and 1,000 coins.

Harold

  • A safe strategy is to start at 100 coins, double your bet after a loss, and return to 100 after a win. Once you get the IOU, read it—the combination code for the storage room is on the back. The IOU will disappear from your inventory and be replaced with the combination. If you lose it, Harold can give you a new IOU or Combination after finishing the dialogue.
  • Go back to Eohric, upstairs in the Burthope castle.

Tip: I recommend getting a premade Blurberry Special before gambling with Harold. Without it, you may spend more time gambling than it would take to simply get the drink. It’s easy to obtain on Ironman and can be bought from the Grand Exchange on regular accounts.

Storage Room

Return to the castle, where you’ll find coloured stone balls on the ground. Pick up the five stones (one of each colour—the yellow ball is just south of the green ball) and place them as follows with the map facing north:

  • Blue: bottom left corner

  • Yellow: bottom right corner

  • Red: middle left

  • Purple: middle right

  • Green: top right corner

Note: If you place the balls before reading the IOU/Combination, the door won’t open. If this happens, pick up one ball (Green, nearest the door) and replace it after reading the Combination.

Finding a New Route

  • Leave the castle and head north-west along the path toward Death Plateau, where you’ll find a cave. Go inside and speak with Saba. Ask if he knows another way to the plateau.

Cave, northwest Burthope

  • Exit the cave and continue west along the path until it forks north and south. A wounded soldier marks the northern route as dangerous—if you go that way, a warning sign indicates you’ll be attacked by trolls. Do not take the northern path. Instead, head south-west along the safe route and enter the house at the end. Inside, you’ll find Tenzing. Speak to him and ask for his assistance. He will help in exchange for 10 loaves of bread and 10 cooked trout, and will give you Climbing boots. Be careful—if your inventory is full, the boots won’t be added, and Tenzing may not offer another pair.

Note: If you lose your climbing boots, continue the quest by talking to Dunstan, then Denulth to get the certificate to accept Dunstan’s son into the Imperial troops. Afterward, return to Tenzing to receive a replacement pair.

Tenzing

  • Take the climbing boots to Dunstan in north-east Burthorpe. He will convert your climbing boots into spiked boots after the dialogue and you offer him an iron bar
  • After speaking with Dunstan, return to the tent where you began the quest and talk to Denulth. Tell him you’ve found a new path, and he will give a certificate to officially accept Dunstan’s son into the Imperial troops.
  • Go back to Dunstan, give him the iron bar and the certificate, and he will create the spiked boots for you.

Note: If you already have spiked boots in your bank, Dunstan won’t make another pair. He’ll say, “Sorry, I can’t do anything with that,” and hint that you already own a pair.

Finishing the Quest

Items needed: 10 loaves of bread, 10 cooked trout, the combination, and Tenzing’s spiked climbing boots.

  • Return to Tenzing and hand over all his supplies—the bread and trout must be un-noted. You must give all 21 items at once. (Tip: cooked trout can be purchased in the Warriors’ Guild.) In return, Tenzing will give you a map of the secret area.
  • Before informing Denulth, you need to check the path yourself. Exit Tenzing’s house through the side door into his backyard and climb over the stile. Follow the path north, then east. Continue walking past the second mountain goat and the rock shortcut (do not attempt to climb the rocks).

Death Plateau warning

  • You may see a warning popup saying trolls will attack if you continue, but you can safely ignore it—trolls only attack on the normal path. Keep following the path east until you receive the message that it’s safe to report the secret path to Denulth.
  • Return to Denulth with the Combination and the Secret Way map in your inventory to complete the quest. Note: If you lose the Combination or the Secret Way map, they can be reclaimed from Harold or Tenzing, respectively.
