OSRS Murder Mystery Quest Guide: Tips for Beginners

OSRS Murder Mystery Quest Guide: Tips for Beginners

Murder Mystery is a short investigative quest where the player solves the murder of Lord Sinclair. Each playthrough is slightly different because the killer is randomly selected, so you’ll need to examine evidence carefully and compare clues to find the culprit.

This quest has no skill or quest requirements, making it perfect for new players looking for a quick set of Quest Points and Crafting XP.

General Questing Tips

  • Turn on RuneLite Quest Helper for a clean step-by-step route (image referenced here).
  • Hold spacebar to fast-skip dialog.
  • Use number keys for chat options to speed up interactions.

Time to complete: It took me about five minutes to complete this quest.

Walkthrough for Murder Mystery

Start the Quest

  • Teleport to Camelot and talk to the Guard at the entrance of Sinclair Manor shown in the map below
Select dialog option 1 to begin.

Collect the First Clues

Enter the mansion and search the east room:

You should find:

  • The pungent pot
  • The criminal’s dagger

The images of the items needed are shown below

Then inspect the broken window to collect a clothing thread.

Its color corresponds to the killer’s trousers—this is your first major clue.

Gather Forensic Tools

Go to the shed outside, northeast of the house, and investigate the sacks to obtain flypaper. Take two pieces.

Search Each Suspect’s Room

Every suspect has a silver item hidden in a barrel. Search all bedrooms on both floors.

You’ll find one of each:

  • Anna – silver necklace

Anna's barrel

  • Bob – silver cup
  • Carol – silver bottle
  • David – silver book
  • Elizabeth – silver needle

These items are used to compare fingerprints.

Prepare the Fingerprint Test

Fill your pot from the flour barrel in the mansion’s kitchen.

Do the following:

  • Use pot of flour on the criminal’s dagger.

Barrel of flour

  • Use flypaper on the flour-covered dagger to lift the killer’s print
  • Refill the pot with flour
  • Repeat the process on each suspect’s silver item
    • Flour → Silver item → Flypaper

You will now have fingerprint samples for all suspects.

Identify the Killer

Compare the unknown fingerprint (from the dagger) with each suspect’s print.
When you find an exact match, your chat box will confirm it.

This step determines the murderer, as every player gets a different killer.

Confirm Motive & Alibi

Talk to Gossip, just south of the mansion. Select reply 2.

  • Next, gather information about the poison. Head to the pub west of the Seers’ Village bank and speak with the poison salesman. Reply 2 to ask him who bought the poison, and he’ll reveal that everyone at the mansion purchased some.

  • Next, speak to the Poison Salesman at the Seers’ Village pub shown in the image below. Select reply 2.

Finally, confront the suspect whose fingerprint matched. They’ll give an alibi—go inspect the location they claimed to have cleaned.
If their alibi doesn’t hold up, they’re guilty.

  • Anna – Compost heap
  • Bob – Beehive in the cow pen
  • Carol – Mansion drain, west of the front door
  • David – Spider nest upstairs, between the two rooms with three beds each
  • Elizabeth – Fountain
  • Frank – Family crest, east of the front door

Report the Culprit

  • Return to the Guard outside Sinclair Manor and present your findings to complete the quest.

Murder Mystery is one of several quests in the Camelot storyline, along with Merlin’s Crystal and Holy Grail. While Murder Mystery itself gives no combat XP. it is required for King’s Ransom which awards up to 33,000 Defence XP and unlocks the Knight Waves Training Grounds, which grant access to Piety, one of the strongest melee prayers in the game.
