OSRS Best Ranged Weapon Progression Guide
Complete OSRS Ranged weapons guide from level 1 to 99: every bow, crossbow, and thrown weapon with verified stats, plus niche picks like Chinchompas etc.
Last updated September 2026. Reflects the 22 July 2026 Summer Sweep-Up Gear and PvM Changes update.
The best all-round stab weapon in OSRS is the Ghrazi rapier, 4 ticks with +100 stab and +93 Strength. Against high-defence bosses, Osmumten's fang wins; on a budget, Belle's folly at around 77K GP lands a bigger max hit than the fang.
Stab is the style for anything with a shell, plate armour or thick hide. Vorkath, the Corporeal Beast, the Kalphite Queen and metal dragons all carry lower stab defence than slash or crush defence. That weakness is accuracy rather than damage: more of your hits land, and each hit is the same size.
The trap in this category is the stance. Swords and daggers get an aggressive style, but spears and hastae only get Controlled, which adds 1 to your effective Strength level, whereas Aggressive adds 3. Each entry says who the weapon is for and where it stops being worth the money.
The max hits and damage numbers here come from the OSRS DPS calculator, so you can verify them yourself instead of just taking my word for it.
Every figure is the weapon on its own, with nothing else equipped:

The Gemstone Crab is the yardstick because every weapon here lands 97% or more of its attacks against it. The column therefore shows Strength bonus and attack speed rather than accuracy.
That makes it unfair to anything whose value is accuracy or a passive, especially Osmumten's fang and the Dragon Hunter Lance. The order follows these numbers anyway. Each entry covers what they cannot show: passives, special attacks, upkeep, price, and how often the content a weapon was built for comes up.
Stab is where the defender argument carries the most weight, because 13 of the 19 weapons in the comparison table are one-handed. An Avernic defender is +8 Strength and +30 stab accuracy for nothing, and even a dragon defender gives +6 and +25.
The hasta and the spear have identical offensive stats: the same +85 stab, the same +75 Strength, and the same 4-tick speed. The hasta wins because it leaves your off-hand free for a defender, which is also why the two are tied in the table below, where neither has an off-hand.
The two-handed Zamorakian spear is my Corporeal Beast weapon because of corpbane. Corp halves damage from anything that is not a corpbane weapon used on stab. Spears and halberds qualify and hastae do not, so the hasta stays in the bank for Corp.
Two-handed stab weapons justify themselves with size. The Noxious halberd carries +142 Strength, the highest on any weapon with a usable stab style, and it reaches two tiles.
Vesta's spear has a +133 stab bonus that no one-handed weapon comes close to, beaten only by the perfected crystal and corrupted halberds, which exist solely inside the Gauntlet. Guthan's warspear brings a set effect nothing one-handed can match.
In practice I keep a one-handed weapon on for anything repetitive and swap to two-handed when I want a specific effect out of it. Slayer, training and long boss trips get the one-hander.
The halberd goes on at Corp, Guthan's goes on when I want the healing, and Vesta's only comes out in the designated arenas where it works at all.
Number one on this list has the highest bare-weapon DPS, but that doesn't make it the best buy for your account. The order follows the damage table, not general usefulness, so go to whichever entry matches your account and your task list.
Five things to keep in mind:
The table below is sorted by Gemstone Crab DPS, highest first. Max Hit and Gemstone Crab DPS come from the 99/99 bare-weapon setup in How I Ranked These Weapons, so they compare fairly. Both sit well below what the same weapon does once you put real gear, potions and prayers behind it.
GE prices checked in September 2026. The Grand Exchange moves, so check the live price before you buy.

| Bone dagger | None | 1H | 4 | +5 | +4 | 12 | 2.42 | 2K (shop) |
Four entries are not Grand Exchange purchases. The Leaf-bladed spear comes from any Slayer Master at 31K GP, and the Bone dagger from Nardok in the Dorgeshuun Mines at 2,000. The keris partisan of breaching is untradeable, so you assemble it yourself. Vesta's spear comes from the Bounty Hunter store and only functions in a short list of combat arenas.
The Noxious halberd is the Corporeal Beast and Araxxor weapon. Building it requires three Araxxor drops, plus 72 Smithing and 72 Crafting. The +142 Strength bonus is the highest on any weapon with a usable stab style.

It reaches two tiles, envenoms on a third of hits, and its Jab counts as corpbane, so it deals full damage to the Corporeal Beast. That last point is the main reason to buy one.
By contrast, it is two-handed and controlled only, giving up both the defender and the aggressive bonus. At 39.5M it is a poor general Slayer weapon and a very good one at Corp and Araxxor.
The Ghrazi rapier is the weapon for everything except a Defence wall. The 22 July 2026 Summer Sweep-Up update took it from +94 stab and +89 Strength up to +100 and +93. At 4 ticks it posted the highest Gemstone Crab DPS of any one-handed weapon on this table.

Nothing degrades, nothing needs charging, and nothing requires upkeep. After years of feeding scales and ether into weapons, that counts for more with me than it used to. If I could own one melee weapon, it would be this one.
Vesta's spear has the biggest stab bonus outside the Gauntlet at +133, with +122 Strength behind it. It also has a very short list of places you can swing it.
Spear Wall lands an initial hit of up to your maximum and, two ticks later, follows with a second worth 50 to 75% of the first. It also grants eight ticks of immunity to melee and ranged attacks, so it is as much a defensive tool as an offensive one.
It takes 300 Bounty Hunter points and 5M GP to charge.

Vesta's spear is not a Wilderness weapon. You cannot swing it in the Wilderness or on a PvP world at all. Daimon's Crater, Castle Wars, Clan Wars, Soul Wars, the TzHaar Fight Pit and the house and Clan Hall combat rings are the complete list. I listed it for the stat line, which no other weapon here matches.
The Abyssal dagger is the burst option at 70 Attack. Abyssal Puncture lands two hits at 25% extra accuracy and 15% reduced damage for 25% of your energy.

The weapon underneath is decent without being exciting: +75 stab, +75 Strength, 4 ticks. It costs roughly 1M, because the Abyssal Sire drops them steadily. Mine lives in the inventory for stacking damage rather than on the character for sustained output.
The Voidwaker is a PvP finisher that also has a usable stab style. Its Lunge carries +70 stab, on a Controlled stance rather than an aggressive one.

What you are buying is Disrupt: 50% of your energy for guaranteed magic damage between 50 and 150% of your maximum melee hit. There is no accuracy roll involved and nothing you can pray against. In PvP that makes it a reliable finisher, and in PvM a decent opener.
About 38.2M is a lot to pay for one special attack, though it never degrades and never needs charging.
Osmumten's fang is the category's boss weapon, and two passives carry it. On stab styles it rolls accuracy twice and needs only one of the two to land, which is why it keeps connecting against armoured targets where everything else stalls out.
The second passive clamps every damage roll to between 15 and 85% of the true maximum. That drops the ceiling from 29 to 25 and lifts average damage per attack to 14.49, up from 13.29 for a Ghrazi rapier with a higher max hit. You trade the big numbers for hitting close to your average almost every time.

Against a Gemstone Crab the accuracy passive does nothing, which is why it sits behind the rapier on the table. At Tombs of Amascut and other high-Defence bosses there is no stab weapon in the same conversation.
Belle's folly is the budget stab weapon I would buy at 65 Attack, a stab version of the Zombie axe. A +100 stab bonus with +102 Strength for under 100K GP looks like a mistake. Its 29 max hit on this setup is above the fang's, since the fang's damage clamp pulls its real ceiling down to 25.

The catch is the 5-tick speed, which drops it behind the 4-tick weapons over any sustained fight. You take the tarnished version from the Shellbane Gryphon to the polishing wheel at the Giants' Foundry, which needs 70 Smithing and Sleeping Giants. At around 77K GP nothing else is close.
The Dragon hunter lance gives 20% extra accuracy and damage against anything draconic. That includes Vorkath, the Alchemical Hydra, metal dragons, and a long stretch of the Slayer list. On that content, it is the correct answer and the 47.1M is easy enough to justify.
Away from dragons it is a 4-tick spear with an ordinary +70 Strength bonus, and being a spear it is controlled only, so it surrenders the aggressive bonus as well. It is built by using a hydra claw on a Zamorakian hasta, and that conversion cannot be undone, so buy it for the content it was made for.

At 47.1M GP, the lance is a big save, especially when dragons are just one of many tasks on your list. Instead, you can purchase the Dragon Hunter lance from our item store right now for an easier upgrade.
The Zamorakian hasta is the one-handed version of the Zamorakian spear, bought for anything except the Corporeal Beast. Corp halves damage from anything that is not a corpbane weapon on stab. The two-handed spear qualifies and the hasta does not, so Corp is the one fight where the spear wins.

It also has the best defensive bonuses of any one-handed melee weapon, at +13 stab, +13 slash, +12 crush and +13 ranged, which adds up over a long trip. Otto Godblessed converts a Zamorakian spear for 300K GP, or 150K with the elite Kandarin diary, and the conversion reverses for free.
The drawback is the controlled-only style and the Strength bonus that goes with it. It costs around 1.5M.
The Zamorakian spear is the two-handed original, dropped by K'ril Tsutsaroth at 1 in 127. Offensive stats match the hasta at +85 stab and +75 Strength, and the difference between them is the empty off-hand, which costs real damage.

It trades around 1.25M, just under the hasta, and is mainly bought to convert. Keep the spear if you fight the Corporeal Beast, because the hasta loses full damage there. Everywhere else, pay the difference and go straight to the hasta.
Shove, its special attack, pushes the target back and stuns it for three seconds, which is mostly a curiosity.
The Toxic Staff of the Dead is a hybrid that suits accounts that switch styles mid-fight. Its Jab is a 4-tick stab at +55 with a +72 Strength bonus, and it carries 15% magic damage alongside, so there is no weapon swap between phases.

Jab is an accurate style rather than a controlled one, so it hands you +3 Attack and no Strength bonus at all, which costs it a little against the spears.
Power of Death halves an opponent's melee damage for a minute and costs the entire special bar. Zulrah's scales keep it charged, and the uncharged staff runs about 7.8M.
The Dragon sword is the best stab weapon at 60 Attack, at around 72K GP. Wyrms, Shadow Wyrms and Lost Ironwood Crates all drop it.

Wild Stab costs 40% energy for 25% extra accuracy and damage. It ignores Protect from Melee for that hit, which is why PKers still keep one in the inventory. It beats the Dragon hasta on stab bonus, on Strength and on style. If I were handing a mid-level account a single weapon, it would be this one.
The Dragon hasta is a reasonable 60 Attack option at about 39K GP, pulled in broken form from the brimstone chest and repaired free of charge by Otto Godblessed. It is one-handed, so it keeps a defender, which is its real advantage over the cheap two-handed alternatives.

The Dragon hasta is not the best stab weapon at 60 Attack. The Dragon sword beats it on stab bonus, Strength, and style for roughly twice the money. The hasta is still a decent stopgap.
The Keris Partisan of Breaching is a Kalphite specialist and makes no pretence otherwise. Base stats of +58 stab and +45 Strength are weak for an 80 Attack requirement. Against Kalphites and Scabarites, it adds 33% accuracy and 33% damage, with a 1 in 51 chance of punching through the shell for triple damage.

On a Kalphite task, or at the Kalphite Queen, it beats far more expensive gear. The finished weapon is untradeable: you buy a keris partisan and a Breach of the Scarab jewel, roughly 60K GP of materials between them, and combine the two yourself.
The other jewelled partisans keep their effects only inside Tombs of Amascut, which is what makes this the one worth owning.
Guthan's warspear is worth owning as part of the Guthan's set and not otherwise. A quarter of your successful hits heal you for the damage dealt. That is why the set has survived twenty years, and why long solo trips and Nightmare Zone sessions cost so little in food.

The spear on its own is plain: 5 ticks, two-handed, controlled only, +75 across the board. It degrades over 15 hours of combat and costs around 82K. You're paying for the healing.

The Blue Moon Spear is a hybrid staff out of the Lunar Chest, cheap at around 360K. Its Jab is a 5-tick stab at +70 with a +71 Strength bonus, on an accurate stance rather than a controlled one. It also carries +30 magic attack and 5% magic damage, so it doubles as a casting weapon.
With full Blue Moon armour, the Frostweaver effect gives binding spells a 20% chance to trigger an instant melee attack, rising to 50% on Arceuus Grasp spells. That pairing is the weapon's entire point. Used as a plain stab weapon, it is mediocre.
The Dragon dagger is still the cheapest way to land two hits at once. Puncture costs 25% energy for two attacks at 15% extra accuracy and damage. A full bar buys four hits in quick succession.

The base stats are dated at +40 Stab and +40 Strength, and I would not train on one. At about 17K GP, with poisoned variants on the shelf beside it, it is cheap enough to keep in the bank as a spec weapon.
The Leaf-bladed spear is what you buy for Turoth and Kurask tasks. Those monsters cannot be hurt without leaf-bladed weaponry, magic darts, or broad ammunition, and that is the entire reason it exists.

Stats of +47 Stab and +50 Strength at 5 ticks are weak. It is two-handed, controlled only, and cannot be poisoned, so it makes for a slow way through a task. Any Slayer Master sells one for 31K GP.
The Bone dagger has iron dagger stats, which is beside the point. Backstab costs 75% energy and lowers Defence by the damage dealt. It cannot miss so long as the target has not already been damaged and you were not the last to hit it.

Opening on a high-Defence enemy with a guaranteed drain is worth far more than anything the dagger contributes through its own damage. Nardok sells them for 2,000 GP in the Dorgeshuun Mines; you need Death to the Dorgeshuun for the special attack, though not to wield the thing. Cheap enough that the inventory slot is the only real cost.
Four well-known weapons carry a stab bonus without being stab weapons: the Dual macuahuitl, the Inquisitor's mace, the Scythe of Vitur and the Soulreaper axe. None of them is worth using on stab.
The Dual macuahuitl's +115 stab bonus would put it near the top of any raw stab list, but the stab option is Spike, a controlled style. The weapon also splits its max hit across two hitsplats, and the second accuracy check happens only if the first lands.
That combination punishes it badly against armoured targets. It is a crush weapon with a stab bonus attached, and its real strength is the Bloodrager effect from blood moon armour.
The Inquisitor's mace does +52 stab and +102 crush, which makes it usable but not really worth buying. If you can afford a 308M mace, a rapier should be within reach too. I recommend using it for crush attacks; read more about it in my OSRS Best Crush Weapons guide here.

The Scythe of Vitur has no stab attack style. Reap and Chop are slash, Jab is crush, and the +70 stab bonus on a charged scythe never gets rolled against because no selectable style uses it.
The scythe's identity is its multi-hit arc against large monsters. At roughly 914K GP an hour to keep charged, it is an expensive weapon to misuse.
The Soulreaper axe is in the same position. Chop, Hack and Smash are slash and crush, so the +28 stab bonus on its stat sheet corresponds to no attack style you can select. The soul stack mechanic and the +125 Strength bonus earn their keep on the styles it does have.
A stab-focused melee account stays cheap until 80 Attack. Buy a Dragon sword at 60 and Belle's folly at 65, then a Ghrazi rapier or Osmumten's fang once you know what you are fighting.
Those first two come to under 150K GP together and will carry you into the mid-game. My OSRS melee weapon progression guide sets this route beside the slash and crush options.
The Ghrazi rapier is the best all-round stab weapon, and the 22 July 2026 Summer Sweep-Up update settled whatever argument was left. High-defence bossing and raids belong to Osmumten's fang, whose double-accuracy roll does something no amount of raw stats can replicate. On value, nothing is close to Belle's folly at around 77K GP.
Specific content wants a specialist instead. The Dragon Hunter Lance handles anything draconic, and the Keris Partisan of Breaching handles Kalphites. The Noxious halberd or the Zamorakian spear handles the Corporeal Beast, and the Leaf-bladed spear comes out when a task gives you no choice.
Special attacks scale with what you can afford. A 17K GP Dragon dagger still ends fights, and the Abyssal dagger does the same job better for about 1M. The Voidwaker does it with damage nothing can defend against, for about 38.2M.
One last thing, because it is specific to stab: check the attack style before you spend the money. Spears and hastae have no aggressive stance and give up a Strength bonus on every hit, and bladed staves give up even more. When two weapons look close on the stat screen, that is what separates them.
The Ghrazi rapier, with +100 stab and +93 Strength, is a 4-tick one-handed weapon. It posted 5.54 DPS on my bare-weapon test, the highest of any one-handed stab weapon, and it never degrades or needs charging. Against high-Defence bosses, Osmumten's Fang wins instead, on its double-accuracy roll.
The Dragon sword, at around 72K GP. It gives +65 stab and +63 Strength on a 4-tick aggressive style for 4.49 DPS, and its Wild Stab special ignores Protect from Melee. It beats the Dragon hasta on stab bonus, Strength and style, for roughly twice the price.
Belle's folly if you are buying on value, at about 77K GP for +100 stab and +102 Strength. The Abyssal dagger at roughly 1M is the better special attack, and the Zamorakian spear at about 1.25M is what you want at the Corporeal Beast. All three are usable well before 80 Attack.
For the weapon slot, a Ghrazi rapier with an Avernic defender. Around it, Torva or Bandos armour, an amulet of torture, ferocious gloves, primordial boots and an ultor ring. This guide covers weapons only, so plan the armour side before you spend.
