Crafting Low Level Guide (1–20)

Questing (Recommended)

Murder Mystery → 1 to 9 Crafting.

Death on the Isle → 5,000 Crafting XP.

Leather Crafting

  • Craft gloves → boots → bodies.
  • 217 leather needed for 1–20.
  • ~70k GP cost.

Cutting Opals (Fastest)

  • Buy 500 uncut opals and a chisel.
  • Level 1–20 in under 10 minutes.
  • ~20k XP/hr. Profitable since cut opals sell for more.

Stringing Amulets

  • Balls of wool + unstrung amulets.
  • ~10k XP/hr, with profit from ruby or dragonstone amulets.

Fastest Methods to 99

Crafting is not as expensive as it once was, and some methods are even profitable. Here are the three main fast routes:

Cutting Gems (20–77+)

  • Low-High level: Sapphires → Emeralds → Rubies → Diamonds.
  • Avoid Dragonstones (too costly: ~500m).
  • Cutting rubies/emeralds/diamonds to 99 = ~30m GP loss.
  • ~220–250k XP/hr.

Battlestaves (54–99)

  • Water (54), Earth (58), Fire (62), Air (66).
  • 240k–330k XP/hr.
  • Method: 14 orbs + 14 battlestaves → craft all → repeat.
  • Semi-aflk ~40–50 hours to 99.

Dragonhide Bodies (63–99)

  • Green (63), Blue (71), Red (77), Black (84).
  • Fastest method overall (~500k XP/hr with black).
  • But costly:
    • Green: ~20m loss, 40 hours.
    • Black: 200m+ loss, 35 hours.
  • Balanced choice: Green/Blue → efficient and cheaper.

Alternative & AFK Methods

Glassblowing

  • Unpowered orbs.
  • ~50s AFK per inventory.
  • 80k–100k XP/hr.

Amethyst Cutting (83+ Crafting)

  • Chisel on amethyst → dart tips/arrowtips.
  • ~160k XP/hr.
  • Sometimes profitable, depending on GE prices.

Drift Nets (26+ Crafting)

  • Jute fibres → drift nets.
  • ~60k XP/hr.
  • 25s AFK interval.
  • Profit ~500k/hr (130m to 99 but ~200 hours).

Profitable Crafting Methods

  • Silver Jewellery (45+ Crafting)
    • Topaz amulets, opal necklaces, jade amulets.
    • ~1m GP/hr profit.
    • Afk timer: 50s (25s if using gems).

  • Gold Jewellery
    • Sapphire necklaces, ruby amulets, dragonstone bracelets.
    • Dragonstone bracelets = 150k XP/hr + ~30m GP profit to 99.
    • Afk timer: 50s (25s if using gems).

  • Mixed Hide Armour (2023 update):
    • Crafted from mixed hide bases + furs.
    • Very profitable but requires starting capital.

Always check GE's prices at the moment with a small amount in case there is a big loss, so you don't lose too much. Profit methods fluctuate heavily sometimes.

AFK Times (Per Inventory)

  • Glassblowing: 50s.
  • Gem/Amethyst cutting: 32s.
  • Drift nets: 26s.
  • Battlestaves: 17s.
  • D’hide bodies: 16s.

Best balance: Emeralds/Rubies = good XP + AFK.

Ironman Crafting

For Ironman, most time is spent gathering supplies:

  •   Charter Ships: Buy and bank soda ash, seaweed, buckets of sand → Superglass Make.
  •   Seaweed farming + Sandstone mining = self-sustaining glassblowing.
  •   Shilo Village Gem Mine: Great long-term gem source.
  •   Jewellery: Use Blast Furnace for gold ores.
  •   Battlestaves: Buy from Zaff (Varrock Diaries), PvM drops, or Celastrus trees.
  •   Early Game: Quests, flax bowstrings (Camelot), Guardians of the Rift (passive XP).

Most common Ironman path: Superglass Make → Glassblowing to 99. Check out our ironman crafting guide for more information.

Conclusion

Crafting is a skill that can seem intimidating due to its wide variety of methods, but the trick is to find the one that is easiest for your situation. Once you have made the decision, begin the journey of climbing to 99 without looking back.

  • Fastest: Gems → Battlestaves → D’hide bodies (but pricey)
  • AFK: Glassblowing, Amethyst, Drift Nets (but slower)
  • Profitable: Silver/Gold jewellery (but slower)
