OSRS Shark Fishing Guide: Best Spots, XP Rates & GP Per hour

Sharks are a type of fish that can be caught with a fishing net or a harpoon at level 76 fishing. They give 110 fishing XP per catch and 210 cooking XP when cooked. Catching Sharks is extremely slow and is not recommended for players who want fast XP rates. However, it is quite profitable when the raw sharks are sold. Raw sharks can also be cooked and used for food, as they can heal 20 hitpoints each time they are eaten.

Recommendations for Fishing Raw Sharks

• 90+ fishing: Although the requirement for catching raw sharks is 76 fishing, catching them at this level is quite slow, it is recommended to catch them when you have 90+ fishing since you'd be able to catch them at a decent rate.
• Crystal Harpoon: this is an untradeable item that requires 71 fishing, 70 attack, and 50 agility to wield, It is created through crystal singing after completion of the Song of the Elves quest. When it is charged, it provides a 35% increased catch rate than a regular harpoon.  

Alternatively, players can use the Dragon Harpoon, which requires 61 fishing and 60 attack, it gives the player a 20% increased catch rate when compared to a regular harpoon

• Rada's Blessing: this is an achievement for completing Kourend and Kebos Diary. It can give an increased yield when fishing. The Rada Blessing 4 gives an 8% chance to catch two sharks while the others give 6%, 4%, and 2% respectively.
• Anglers outfit: this outfit is quite easy to get, it comprises four pieces of clothing which give the player a total of 2.5% additional XP if worn while fishing.
• Spirit flakes: these are received as drops from looting the reward pool after defeating Tempoross. They give a 50% chance of yielding double catch when fishing. Since catching raw sharks is slow, using your spirit flakes for this activity is very helpful.  

Best Locations to Catch Sharks

The best locations for catching sharks are based on the availability of fishing spots and their proximity to the bank, based on these factors, here is the order of locations to catch raw sharks, starting from best to worst spot.

• Fishing Guild: players can catch sharks at the docks of the fishing guild (requires 68 fishing); this is the best spot to catch raw sharks as players are given an invisible +7 fishing level boost while inside the guild and there is a bank very close.

• Catherby: There are several fishing spots to catch sharks located southeast of Catherby, these spots are ideal for players who want to bank the fish that they catch since there is a bank close by.

• Burgh de Rott; There are several fishing spots where players can catch sharks in Burgh de Rott. This spot requires the completion of the Priest of Peril quest to access. This spot also has a bank that is close by, as shown.

• Rellekka: A fishing spot where players can catch sharks is at the docks in Relleka, players can bank the fish they get at Jatizso or Neitiznot if they have it unlocked.

• Iorwerth camp: Players must have started the Regicide quest and have at least 45 agility to pass obstacles along the way. The fastest way to get here is by using the Iorwerth teleport.

XP rates From Catching Sharks

The XP rates listed below account for the time spent banking, so your XP may vary depending on your efficiency. Wearing the Angler's outfit will provide a 2.5% boost to these XP rates.

• At 76 Fishing, players can expect 17,600 XP per hour while catching sharks.
• At 85 Fishing, players can expect approximately 19,360 XP per hour while catching sharks.
• At 90 Fishing, players can expect approximately 20,240 XP per hour while catching sharks.
• At 99 Fishing, players can expect approximately 21,760 XP per hour while catching sharks.

GP per hour From Catching Sharks

• At 76 Fishing, players can expect to catch 160 raw sharks per hour, resulting in 126,720 GP.
• At 85 Fishing, players can expect to catch approximately 176 raw sharks per hour, resulting in 139,392 GP.
• At 90 Fishing, players can expect to catch approximately 184 raw sharks per hour, resulting in 145,728 GP.
• At 99 Fishing, players can expect to catch approximately 198 raw sharks per hour, resulting in 156,744 GP.

2 tick Catching Sharks

Catching raw sharks is usually slow, however it can be improved with tick manipulation. With 2-tick manipulation, your character will attempt to catch a shark once every 2 ticks. The XP rates with this method depend on your fishing level, so it's not advisable to use this method at low fishing levels as it won't be worth the effort.

Requirements For 2 tick-catching Sharks

Completion of the Monkey Madness I quest is required to unlock the Ape toll, where this training method can be done.

Steps for 2-tick Catching Sharks

• Get to the shark fishing spot at Ape Atoll, the fastest way is to use the Fairy Ring CLR
• First, turn on auto-retaliate, equip a shortbow and no ammo with the attack style set to rapid.
• Get two birds from the location above to attack you, and then lure them to the fishing spot.
• At the fishing spot, get each bird to attack you once every 2 ticks. You can do this by walking a few tiles back and forth
• Click the fishing spot after anytime a hitsplat appears above your character and drop the sharks anytime your inventory is full

XP rates from 2-tick Catching Sharks

• At 76 Fishing, players can expect 50,080 XP per hour while catching sharks.
• At 85 Fishing, players can expect approximately 55,040 XP per hour while catching sharks.
• At 90 Fishing, players can expect approximately 57,600 XP per hour while catching sharks.
• At 99 Fishing, players can expect approximately 62,000 XP per hour while catching sharks

Players can improve their profits by cooking the raw sharks. 80 cooking is required to do this, however 89+ cooking is recommended to reduce the burn rate. Other recommendations include the completion of the Family crest for cooking gauntlets and completing the easy Kourend & Kebos diary to access Hosidius Kitchen. Players can cook 1300 raw sharks per hour with these recommendations, resulting in 500K GP.

Minnows Fishing

Minnows can be exchanged for raw sharks and since they can be caught at a faster rate, catching them is a faster way to get raw sharks. Players can expect to catch double the raw sharks and get twice the XP rates from catching minnows when compared to catching raw sharks regularly. Rare Drops From Catching Raw Sharks

Except for the raw sharks players get while catching raw sharks, they still have a chance to get any of these rare drops

Heron Fishing pet

The chance of getting the Heron pet while catching raw sharks is one of the lowest in the game. Players have a chance of 1 in 82,243 of getting the pet while catching raw sharks.

Big shark

While harpoon fishing at any harpoon/big net fishing, there is a 1/5,000 chance of catching a big shark if you have 76 fishing, Players can mount it in the skill hall in their POH at 76 construction after it has been stuffed by the Taxidermist in Canifis who will charge 5,000 coins. The benefits of the Rada's blessing and spirit flakes will enable the player to catch 2 big sharks if either of them activates.
