OSRS F2P Runecrafting Guide: Leveling 1-99 Fastest

Runecrafting is one of the slowest and most challenging skills to train in F2P, especially when compared to P2P. In members' worlds, players benefit from several features such as the Graceful outfit, stamina potions, and access to higher-tier altars—all of which significantly boost XP rates. Unfortunately, none of these are available in F2P, making the grind much more tedious. To achieve decent XP rates in F2P, players often have to resort to costly methods that result in heavy losses. 

Fastest Way to 99 Runecrafting in F2P

Level 1-99: Crafting Body Tiaras

Crafting Body tiaras is the fastest way of training runecrafting in F2P, but it is quite expensive. To do this method, you need 31 Magic, tiaras, body talismans, a Staff of air, Law runes, Earth runes, a Skull Sceptre (i), and energy potions are recommended for faster trips.

The best way to craft Body runes is in a PvP world because the Lumbridge teleport on a PVP world is the closest F2P players can get to a bank. First, set up your inventory as above, with 12 tiaras and 12 talismans at the Lumbridge bank. Teleport to Barbarian Village using a Skull Sceptre (i), run to the Body altar, and after making the tiaras, teleport to Lumbridge using the spellbook to bank and repeat the process. The location of the Body altar is just east of Barbarian Village.

To reach level 99 Runecrafting using this method, you’ll need to craft 347,585 tiaras, which requires the same number of Body talismans. The total cost is around 659.3M GP, and the overall loss is about 655.1M GP.

Despite the high cost, this method gives around 47K Runecrafting XP per hour.

Level 1–99: Crafting Earth Tiaras

This method is similar to crafting Body tiaras. It has lower magic requirements and cost but gives lower XP rates. Crafting Earth Tiaras requires Tiaras, Earth talismans, 25 Magic, a Staff of Air, Law runes, Fire runes, and energy potions for faster trips. At Varrock, run to the Earth altar to craft earth tiaras, use a Varrock teleport to the bank, and repeat.

To reach 99 Runecrafting, you’ll need to craft 401,060 Earth tiaras, which means buying the same number of Earth talismans and Tiaras. The total cost is about 178.5M GP, resulting in a loss of approximately 176.5M GP.

Level 1–99: Crafting Water Tiaras

Water tiaras are a cheaper alternative to crafting Body tiaras. You'll need 31 Magic, a Staff of air, Law runes, Earth runes, and energy potions. The route involves running to the Water altar and teleporting to Lumbridge to bank. PvP worlds offer quicker banking but aren't recommended for Hardcore Ironmen.

Fastest Cheap F2P Runecrafting Methods

These are the best methods for players who want to save GP while training Runecrafting in F2P. It is a more realistic approach for most F2P players, but the downside is that they offer low XP rates compared to the fastest, more expensive options.

Level 1–9: Crafting Air runes

Crafting air runes is the cheapest way to start training Runecrafting in F2P. Each pure or rune essence yields 5 Runecrafting XP. The Air Altar is located just south of Falador, with a nearby bank. Players with 37 Magic can use the Falador Teleport for faster banking and improved XP rates.

To reach level 9 Runecrafting, you’ll need 194 pure or rune essence, totaling around 194 GP in cost. The resulting air runes are valued at approximately 970 GP, leading to a profit of 776 GP.

Level 9–20: Crafting Earth runes

At level 9, switch to crafting earth runes for faster runecrafting XP. Each Earth rune crafted provides 6.5 XP. The Earth Altar is located northeast of Varrock near the sawmill. Using the Varrock Teleport significantly reduces the time for each trip, especially when combined with wearing an earth tiara to save inventory space that would be used for Earth talisman. 

Although Fire runes become unlocked at level 14, crafting Earth runes will still give better XP per hour since it is closer to a bank, and fire runes give only 0.5 more XP per essence than Earth runes.

You’ll need 176 pure or rune essence to reach level 14, costing roughly 176 GP. The crafted earth runes are worth about 880 GP, resulting in a profit of 704 GP.

Level 20–99: Crafting Body runes

At level 20 Runecrafting, players can craft Body runes. Each Body rune crafted grants 7.5 XP, and from level 46 onward, you'll begin crafting two body runes per essence. From level 92 and up, you’ll craft three body runes per essence, increasing XP per hour. 

For the best XP rates, follow the body tiara crafting method described above. Equip a staff of air and a body tiara, and bring an imbued Skull Sceptre for teleporting to Barbarian Village. After crafting at the Body altar, use the Lumbridge teleport from your spellbook to bank quickly on PvP world and repeat the process.

To get to level 99 Runecrafting, you’ll need 1,737,329 essence, costing 1,737,329 GP. This will produce 4,335,146 body runes, valued at 21,675,730 GP, yielding a profit of 19,938,401 GP.
