Cook’s Assistant is one of the easiest quests in Old School RuneScape. It’s usually the first quest new players complete, and it takes only a few minutes. Your entire job is to help the Lumbridge Chef gather three basic ingredients. No combat, no requirements, and you don’t even have to leave Lumbridge.
For normal accounts, you can finish it in under a minute if you already have the items. Ironman players will spend 2–3 minutes gathering everything themselves, which is a tiny bit more work but still super quick.
Quick Questing Tips
Enable RuneLite Quest Helper — it keeps you on track without guessing.
Hold the spacebar to breeze through dialogue; some NPCs really love to talk.
Use number keys to select options fast and avoid accidental misclicks.
Time to complete:
Normal accounts: literally seconds if you’re prepared.
Ironman: 2–3 minutes, depending on how fast you move.
You only need three items to complete the quest: an egg, a pot of flour, and a bucket of milk. To get the pot and bucket needed for the flour and milk, you’ll spend a total of 3 GP if you want to buy them from the general store. The egg is free—you can just grab it from the Lumbridge farm.

Pot of flour (requires pot)
Bucket of milk (requires bucket)
If you’re on a regular account, just buy the three required items from the Grand Exchange, walk to the Cook inside Lumbridge Castle, and finish the quest instantly. That’s it.
Ironman should follow the guide below.
You can buy both from the Lumbridge General Store (3 GP).
OR, I think it’s quicker and better to just grab a free bucket from the castle cellar and a pot from the kitchen table since the quest starts in Lumbridge anyway. Personally, I like this “going old school” option — it feels a bit nostalgic.

The chickens here can also be killed for early combat training. They drop feathers, which you can use for making arrows. I think Hardcore Ironman accounts can use this to safely train HP before attempting more difficult combat quests that give significant XP, like Waterfall Quest. Plus, these chickens can’t really hit you, so it’s a risk-free way to get some early combat practice.
I think it’s best to just buy a pot of flour for 10 GP from the Port Sarim food store if you have the GP—it skips the whole process and saves time. However, if you are on a new account, follow the steps below to make it yourself:

You can talk to Millie Miller if you want a quick tutorial. I don't think it is necessary since the steps above are pretty straight-forward.
Go back to the Cook in Lumbridge Castle with your:
Talk to him → Select 1, then 1 to finish instantly.
Congratulations! You’ve completed Cook’s Assistant.
If this was your first quest, welcome to the world of Old School RuneScape! This is just the tip of the iceberg—there are so many adventures, rewards, and fun quests waiting for you.

Access to the Cook’s Range (reduced burn chance)
After finishing Cook’s Assistant, I think you should do these next—they’re quick, have almost no requirements, and are perfect for getting introduced to questing:
They’re all easy, give handy early rewards, and unlock future quests.
