OSRS Pure PKing Guide

Obby maulers, widely known as one of the strongest PK accounts (especially in BH) because of they're low combat. Personally I've always found these accounts a lot of fun to build and PK on, because they're extremely fast/low effort to build & extremely OP at lower combat levels.
Before we dive into the full guide, if you’re not interested in training an obby mauler from scratch we also have premade OSRS obby mauler accounts for sale.

Throughout my time in “Obby Elite” (arguably the best obby mauler clan to ever exist), I have seen a range of different builds that people consider as obby maulers. 1-16 Attack is the general level on most obby accounts, which is what we will be covering in today's guide!
Now, some people consider extra attack levels to be wasted combats, I would have to agree that the only real viable attack levels now are either 1 or 16.
Each of these will have their own benefits, especially where your range and magic level are able to cap (which we will also talk about in a section of its own below).
While keeping your attack level at 1 will keep your account at a lower combat level (level 57 if fully maxed with 1 prayer and 99 HP), level 16 attack will unlock the use of greater corruption (with a saturated heart boost) to PK with for a much higher chance of smiting.
Whichever attack level you decide to use, the following weapons are the ones that experienced obby maulers utilize:
Slayer Staff ![]()
Requires 55+ Slayer to use (see later in the guide). This will be your best training weapon. It is the same speed as a scimitar, and has bonuses that sit somewhere between an addy/rune scim.
Dragon Warhammer ![]()
Requires 60+ Strength to use. The most versatile weapon in your obby maulers arsenal. You will use this for PvP & PvM situations. An absolute must have for every obby mauler. This will be replaced by the Statius Warhammer once unlocked in BH, but will be used until then.
Statius’ Warhammer ![]()
Requires 75+ Strength to use. This is your DWH - but on steroids. Whenever you PK in BH (assuming you’re 75+ strength), this will be your KO weapon.
Ham Joint ![]()
The ham joint is a strange one, because it doesn’t have a very high max hit - but it is 3-tick and crush based. Has a few niche use-cases, as it is faster than scimitar speed & has no requirements to use.
Swift Blade ![]()
Another version of the Ham Joint. Has no requirements to wield, has 3-tick attack speed, but is stab-based instead.
Tzhaar-ket-om ![]()
Requires 60+ Strength to use. As much as it pains me to say this, this will almost never be used by modern day obby maulers. In combination with the berserker necklace, this has a reasonably high max hit - but has been made somewhat redundant by dragon/statius warhammers in the modern PKing meta.
Rune warhammer ![]()
Requires 40+ Strength to use. This is mainly just used very early game on an obby mauler account. It has a very low requirement of just 40 strength to use, so can be useful early on in the accounts life.
The good thing about obby mauler accounts, is that you really don’t have to do very many quests at all.
Firstly, you will want to complete mithril gloves from RFD. Instead of listing each individual quest here, I will link our mithril gloves guide, because it shows an efficient route to getting those completed, click here to see it!
Outside of RFD, the main quests to complete for a 1 defence obby mauler are as follows:
Horror from the deep (unlocks god books)
Death to the Dorgeshuun (unlocks bone dagger)
Bone Voyage (access to fossil island)
Start Dragon Slayer 1 (unlocks crandor, anti dragon shield & antifire potions) note: can avoid this until after getting to your desired slayer level if preferred as it unlocks dragon tasks)
Rune Mysteries (for Varrock Armour 1)
If you’re going to 16 attack, you have two main options for the attack experience (if you’re getting defence levels, there will be a section below):
Death Plateau - 3000xp - Puts you at 16 attack and unlocks climbing boots
Underground Pass - 3000xp - Puts you at 16 attack and unlocks Zulrah and Elf lands access
You can do a lot more quests than just these, but quests are a very easy way to accidentally ruin your build.
So here's the rule I always follow: Before you start any quest, check the rewards. Every single time. Anything that gives unwanted Attack/Defence/Prayer EXP, you skip!
Important gamer note: The ‘Cold War’ quest will give you 40xp for killing the NPC near the end of the quest. So take this into account if doing this quest!
Castle wars halo ![]()
This is one of the biggest unlocks on an obby mauler account. It gives great prayer and defensive stats - it will be your best in slot in almost every situation and has no requirements to get, so grab this nice and early! You can see our Castle wars AFKing guide here.
Fire Cape ![]()
With modern methods, this can be done whether or not you decide to train your prayer level above 1. We have a full fire cape service, so if you need some help, check it out here! This is a crucial unlock for your obby mauler, every bonus counts on these low combat accounts! Important note: Make sure to do this before your range level cap to assure no unwanted combat levels.
Varrock armour 1 ![]()
This will be your highest defence bonus for any platebody. Another unlock that you will use in almost every situation. This has very low requirements, so I would get this done as soon as you can. The only quest requirement on this is ‘Rune Mysteries’ which we listed earlier, and a few roughly level ~10 stats.
God Books ![]()
These are unlocked with the quest Horror from the Deep, the Unholy Book, Book of War & Armadyl book all have their use-cases, and are very easy to unlock early in the account. Note: if you decide to go to level 52 prayer for smite, you will also unlock access to the Antler guard which is better than these books in almost every way, so be sure to use that instead!
Mith Gloves ![]()
Also mentioned above, these are unlocked via the RFD quest-line. Our guide for unlocking these is right here. These will likely be the gloves you use every time you do any PvP activity. They are very cheap and give the same bonuses as a combat bracelet. Outside of PvM, it will always be best to use a Regen bracelet, as that is your actual best in slot.
This section will be very short, because simplicity is key when it comes to training an obby mauler account. So here’s how to train your obby account, without any fluff!

By far the most efficient and easy way to train up your strength is going to be at the Gemstone crab. I won’t go into too much detail on this guide for the Gemstone crab or its alternatives, because we have an entire guide on it that you can read right here.
This is a much slower method of training, but gives the benefit of being able to limit HP exp during your strength training. I wouldn’t recommend limiting the HP levels too much, but if you’re looking to make a fun ‘Glass Cannon’ style account, this is definitely an alternative.
Requirements: Started Giant Dwarf Quest and visited Keldagrim at least once.
This method is very easy, so I will break it down into a few easy steps for you:
Hop to world 302 (this is the unofficial blast furnace pumping world)
![]()
Use the ‘Blast Furnace’ minigame teleport

Go down the stairs into the blast furnace and use the pump on the east side of the furnace, then watch the EXP roll in
This method will give you a consistent 12K EXP/h with one click per 30 minutes. Simply set your logout timer to 30 minutes (either on mobile or using Runelite) and click once per 30 minutes to stay logged in. It’s as simple as that!
55 slayer is essential for a long term obby mauler account, as it unlocks the use of the Slayer Staff, which has stats somewhere between an addy and rune scim, but no attack requirements.
This is arguably the most difficult and tedious part about making one of these builds, because of limited access to good slayer masters, it can prove very difficult to train.
I have compiled a full list of every quest/method that obby maulers usually use in the current meta for getting to level 55 slayer as quickly and passively as possible, while completing other things for your account. After that, it will be finished off with Fossil Island EXP lamps, so choose which quests you’d like to do carefully, because whatever is left, will need to be lamped by fossils.

Once you’ve gone through and completed all of the quests you’d like from this list (can skip some if proving to be too difficult, or check out our OSRS questing service page here)! You will finish off the remainder of your slayer EXP using Fossil Island lamps.
You can gain the fossils however you prefer, but the quickest way is with 65+ woodcutting, cutting Sulliuscep trees. The other main alternative would be with 80+ Hunter, doing Herbiboar (although this is much slower fossils per hour).
Whichever method you decide, simply collect your fossils, clean them, put them into the exhibits in the Varrock Museum basement, and use the lamps you get on Slayer!
![]()
This is potentially one of the most important parts of the guide, on an obby mauler account, you will be limited to the range/magic level you’re able to get without gaining combat levels.
Considering we’re covering two main attack builds here, I’ll list both of the caps below:
1) If you’re level 1 attack, you will be able to get to level 67 range/magic without combats
2) If you’re level 16 attack, you will be able to get to level 77 range/magic without combats
This is extremely important to know. This means that for anything you need to use range/magic to get, you need to do it before reaching these levels. Once you hit these level caps, you will ruin your account by training them further!
Make sure to complete the below things before capping your range levels:
Fire cape
Cannon usage (any additional slayer training you might want to do while having access to a cannon/magic)
Quiver (if 16 attack and want to maximize range offensive)
Infernal cape (these are completeable on obby maulers, although very difficult)
If ironman: Use cannon to kill Lizardman shamans all the way to your range cap to get DWH
Warning: In my personal experience (and I have a lot on this matter), the higher your combat becomes on an obby mauler, the less effective they become. Personally, I think anything over level 20 is somewhat of a waste, because you start to face players with much higher KO potential than you do.
Either way, I’ve listed some builds below and which defence quests to do for them:

This is a very powerful build. 20 Defence allows you to use full Statius in BH, combined with your Statius Warhammer, this can hit extremely high. You also unlock the ability to get addy gloves from RFD. This does start to bring you into the 60-70 combat ranges though, depending on your prayer level. Anything past this level and obby maulers become much less overpowered.
If you do want to be a corrupt obby mauler, you will complete the following defence quests:
If 1 attack:
Nature spirit - 2000 Defence XP - Unlocks fairy rings & Addy Gloves RFD
A Soul’s Bane - 500 Defence XP - Unlocks additional Varrock Diary
Train the rest of the way to 20
If 16 attack:
Nature spirit - 2000 Defence XP - Unlocks fairy rings & Addy Gloves RFD
In Search of the Myreque - 600 Defence XP - Also 600 Attack XP given
In Aid of the Myreque - 2000 Defence XP - Also 2000 Attack XP given

These accounts have slowly become obsolete with the release of 20 defence BH armours. I would not suggest one of these builds in 2026, as the combat is very high for their KO potential. Obby Zerkers have some attack levels also, because of the completion of Fremmy Trials quest. But if you really want to build one, you will do the following defence quests:
Nature spirit - 2000 Defence XP - Unlocks fairy rings & Addy Gloves RFD
Dragon Slayer I - 18,650 Defence XP - Unlocks rune platebody & handful of quests
What Lies Below - 2000 Defence XP - Unlocks continuation of Varrock Diaries
Between a Rock - 5000 Defence XP - No noteable unlocks
Fremennik Trials - 2812 Defence XP - Warning: Gives 2812 Attack XP also. Unlocks Berserker helm
This will total: 30,462 XP and put you at 38 Defence. From here, you can either do a few other quests, or train your defence up to level 40-45 yourself. If you decide to continue questing, just assure that none of the quests you do give further attack EXP, as you will already be at 16!

This final section of this guide will cover the Arceuus Spellbook & Greater Corruption use.
This spell has huge smite potential, because over 30 game ticks (18 seconds), it drains a total of 12 additional prayer points from your enemy in chunks of 2, 4 and 6 (every 6 seconds). At lower levels, this is a sure fire way to get some free plus ones in BH!
Before we dive into this, its worth noting that this is only available to Obby Maulers with 16+ attack, because it allows you to get to 74+ magic without combat levels - to saturated heart boost each time you bank and use the spell in your fights.
The requirements to do this will be the following:
Completion of the ‘A Kingdom Divided’ quest for full access to the Arceuus Spellbook
This will require the following skills:
54 agility
52 thieving
52 woodcutting
50 herblore
42 mining
38 crafting
35 magic
A saturated heart
74+ magic
Once you have the requirements out of the way, it really is as simple as bringing the runes with you for your PK sessions, and using the saturated heart each time you bank in BH (and then bank the heart).
That should cover absolutely everything you need to know about building an obby mauler in OSRS. As always, if you have any questions or need help with getting any of this completed - open up our live chat and we’ll have it done for you in no time!
Happy warhammer boppin’.
