The Must-Have RuneLite Plugins
(OSRS Best Plugins For 2026)
Every plugin I genuinely think you should have installed, why they're worth it, and the exact settings I use.
Introduction
There's two kinds of plugins… the built in ones that come with RuneLite already, and Plugin Hub ones which are community made and you install them yourself. Both are fine, both are allowed, don't stress about it.
To install a Plugin Hub plugin, click the wrench icon (Configuration) on the sidebar, then click the plug icon at the top right (that's the Plugin Hub), search the name, hit install. That's it. If you're on HDOS a lot of these come preinstalled, but I use RuneLite so that's what I'm writing for.
READ THIS FIRST
A word of warning before you go install-crazy: you do NOT need every plugin. I've watched people install 60 plugins, tank their FPS, clutter their screen into oblivion and then wonder why the game runs bad. Install what you'll actually use. More isn't better. This whole guide is me trying to point you at the ones that are actually worth the screen space.
Also worth saying, a lot of “best plugins 2026” lists you'll find are just AI slop that lists a couple plugins with one sentence each and no actual opinion. I've actually used all of these for hundreds or thousands of hours, so, where I have strong feelings about a setting or a way to use something, I'll tell you. Take my opinions as opinions, obviously… mess around with these and find what works for you.
How To Read The Tags
Each plugin below, ive added a simple like, marker (basically whether it's built into RuneLite or a Plugin Hub install) plus one or more coloured tags telling you why it's on the list. Here's what they all mean:
BUILT-INComes with RuneLite already. Just flick it on in the plugin list, no installing needed.
HUBA Plugin Hub plugin, you install it yourself via the plug icon (see the intro). Still free, still allowed, just community made.
ESSENTIALGenuinely install this. If you only take a handful of things from this guide, take the essentials.
QOLQuality of life. Saves clicks, reduces annoyance, makes the game nicer to play. Not required but you'll wonder how you lived without it.
PERFORMANCEAffects how the game runs / looks. FPS, draw distance, graphics.
PVMEspecially useful for bossing, raids and combat.
SKILLINGEspecially useful for skilling and account progression.
IRONMANExtra useful (sometimes basically mandatory) if you play an ironman account.
NEWNewly added or recently blew up in popularity. Worth knowing about.
The Must Haves (Do not question me 😛)
These are the ones I'd install on a fresh account before doing basically anything else. Some of them are so standard you probably forget they're even plugins.
Quest Helper
HUBESSENTIALQOLThe gold standard for questing, achievement diaries and miniquests. If you've ever quested without this, bless you, but you don't have to suffer anymore. It tells you exactly what to do, step by step, highlights where to go, what items you need, and even has a sidebar that lists item requirements before you start a quest so you can grab everything first.
Honestly this plugin alone is worth using RuneLite for. It's THE reason a lot of people quest at all. It's especially good for diary tasks that you'd otherwise have to alt-tab and read a wiki for. Just be aware it can occasionally be a tick behind on newer quests until it gets updated, but the devs are quick.
Menu Entry Swapper
BUILT-INESSENTIALQOLSaves you thousands of clicks by customising your left-click options. This is one of those plugins that once it's set up you completely forget it exists until you play on a client without it and suddenly everything feels wrong.
The classic examples - left click 'Chase' on your cat, swap 'Talk-to' with 'Bank' on bankers, swap teleport items to left click, all of that. You can also configure shift-click options by right clicking the inventory icon and selecting 'Configure Shift-click'. Absolutely essential, I highly recommend ticking the box, shift-click walk here. This helps with so many things its crazy, walking under bosses, flinching, or simply walking to a spot on the ground that has items, and avoiding picking them up.

GPU
BUILT-INESSENTIALPERFORMANCEBetter FPS, increased draw distance and much smoother gameplay. If your PC has a gpu, by the gods turn this on. The default OSRS render distance is tragic and this fixes it completely, plus it uncaps your framerate so the game feels buttery instead of the default 50fps slideshow.
I pretty much copied these settings straight from my Doom guide because they're just my general settings, they work everywhere. Here's what I run:
| Setting | Value |
|---|
| Draw Distance | 184 |
| Anti aliasing | MSAA x4 (bump higher if edges look jagged, costs performance though) |
| UI scaling | xBR (makes the game and chat look the smoothest it can. Differs per monitor so mess around, but xBR works for most people) |
| Anisotropic filtering | 16 |
| Unlock FPS | On (use the FPS target setting below with this) |
| Vsync mode | Off (do NOT use vsync it is ass, UNLESS you get screen tearing, then turn it on. With unlock fps + target you shouldn't need it) |
| FPS target | Set to your monitor's refresh rate (60, 120, 144, 240 etc) |
117 HD
HUBPERFORMANCEIf you like HD graphics. Beautiful lighting, shadows and textures while somehow still keeping that OSRS feel, which is the impressive part. It genuinely makes the game look incredible.
Big caveat though - you CANNOT run 117 HD and the normal GPU plugin at the same time, it's one or the other. And 117 HD is a lot heavier on performance because it's not super well optimised, so if your PC isn't great you'll want the normal GPU plugin instead. Pretty is nice but playable is better.
If your PC can handle it though, it's gorgeous. I go back and forth honestly, sometimes I want the eye candy, sometimes I want max fps for bossing. There's a ton of settings in it, the shadow quality one is the biggest fps killer so lower that first if you're struggling.
Tile Indicators
BUILT-INESSENTIALPVMEssential for bossing, raids and movement. Highlights your current tile (your 'true tile') so you always know exactly what tile the game thinks you're on, which matters SO much in pvm where you're moving around dodging stuff. Also highlights your destination tile so you can see where your click is actually sending you.
There's a corner-only variant which I actually prefer because it clutters the screen less and lets you see mechanics that appear under you. My personal true tile colour is cyan (#FF00FFFF) because it stands out against pretty much everything. If you do any bossing at all, this is not optional.

Ground Items
BUILT-INESSENTIALQOLHighlights valuable drops on the floor and hides the junk. You can set price thresholds so anything above X value gets highlighted in a colour, and you can outright hide items below a certain value so your screen isn't cluttered with vials and ashes.
You can set custom highlights for specific items too which is clutch - like highlight your specific slayer task drops, or set a big obnoxious colour on expensive stuff so you never walk away from a drop. Set it up once and forget about it.

Bank Tags
BUILT-INESSENTIALQOLIRONMANOrganise your gear setups by boss, skill or activity. Default bank tabs are limited and honestly kind of suck, especially because they don't work well for potion storage. Bank Tags lets you make tags for anything and then Bank Tag Layouts lets you arrange the items in that tag however you want, so you can literally lay out your inventory + gear exactly how you'll use it.
I go into this in painful detail in my Doom guide but the short version: make a tag, name it (e.g. your boss), auto-layout it, done. If you use potion storage there's an extra export/import step to get the pots to show. It's a bit fiddly to set up the first time but so worth it.
I recommend having a look at the numerous features it offers, you can see them on the official github here:
https://github.com/runelite/runelite/wiki/Bank-Tags
Inventory Setups
HUBESSENTIALQOLIRONMANSave and load complete inventory + equipment presets. This is the big brother of Bank Tags basically - you save an entire setup (inventory, worn gear, rune pouch, everything) and then when you open your bank you can load it in one click and it'll even filter your bank to show only the items in that setup.

In-game bank window filtered by an Inventory Setup, the "ToB Bundle - All Items" preset showing gear and potions
For anyone doing multiple different activities it's a godsend, no more trying to remember every single item you need to bring to a boss. It'll even warn you if you're missing something from a setup. Pairs perfectly with Bank Tags. Irons especially will love this.
World Hopper
BUILT-INESSENTIALQOLQuickly hop worlds and see ping, player count and activity per world. You can set a favourite worlds list, quick-hop with a hotkey, and it shows you your ping to each world so you can find a nice low-ping one to actually play on.
The hotkey hopping alone (I think it's the arrow keys by default or you can rebind) saves so much time when you're skilling at a busy spot or trying to find an empty world for something. Essential QoL, everyone uses it.

NPC Indicators
BUILT-INESSENTIALPVMMark slayer targets, bosses or important NPCs with highlights. Massively useful on slayer tasks where the monster blends into a crowd, or in busy boss areas. You can highlight by tile, outline, hull, whatever style you like, and colour code them.
The tag feature (highlight a specific npc by shift right clicking) is great for one-off situations, and the 'highlight everything with this name' feature is great for slayer. Combined with Ground Items you basically never miss anything anymore.
Opponent Info
BUILT-INQOLPVMDisplays your current target's HP, and shows combat info. Puts a little health bar and name up so you can actually track how close something is to dying instead of guessing. Some versions/related plugins show weaknesses and more detailed info too.
Small thing but genuinely useful, especially when you're learning a boss and want to see how much damage your specs are actually doing. Nice to have on all the time really.
Loot Tracker
BUILT-INQOLIRONMANTracks your profit from bosses, clues, slayer, basically any drop source. It logs everything you get from a source and totals up the value so you can see your gp/hr and how much a grind has actually made you. Also just satisfying to look at.
Great for figuring out if a money making method is actually worth it versus what people claim online. It ties into the collection log stuff too so you can track uniques. I check mine obsessively after boss sessions.

Entity Hider
BUILT-INQOLPVMGreat for crowded areas and raids - lets you hide other players, their pets, their attack animations, projectiles, all sorts. In a laggy busy bank or a crowded boss lobby you can just hide everyone else and suddenly your fps recovers and you can actually see.
I also use the 'hide dead NPCs' option a ton for skipping death animations, especially at bosses where the corpse animation blocks your view of what's happening next. Really flexible plugin, worth digging through its options.
Status Bars
BUILT-INQOLShows HP, Prayer, Special Attack and Run Energy as clean little bars next to your inventory. Way easier to read at a glance than the orbs, especially the spec and run energy which are easy to forget about.
You can configure it to only show on hover if you find it cluttered, but I keep mine on always. Little thing that just makes tracking your resources in combat easier.
Skill Calculator
BUILT-INSKILLINGQOLFast XP planning and level goals right inside the client. Pick a skill, set a target level or xp, and it shows you exactly how many of each action you need to get there. No more alt-tabbing to a calc site every time you want to plan a grind.
Super handy for irons planning out a big skill, or honestly anyone who likes setting goals. It's a built-in plugin so it's already there, just enable it.

Visual Metronome
HUBESSENTIALPVMSKILLINGExtremely useful for tick-perfect pvm and skilling. It puts a little overlay that ticks in time with the game's ticks so you can nail tick manipulation, 1-ticking, tick-perfect prayer flicks, all of that. Once you learn to play to the tick it's a game changer.
There's also Attack Timer Metronome which shows your attack cooldown ticks specifically, which I honestly rate as one of the most useful pvm plugins full stop - being able to see exactly when your next attack lands lets you weave in other actions perfectly. If you do any serious pvm or efficient skilling, learn to use these.
Chat Filter
BUILT-INQOLCleans up spam and unwanted messages. You can filter out specific words, gambling/spam bot messages, those annoying repetitive game messages, whatever. Makes your chatbox actually readable, especially in busy areas like the GE where the spam is unreal.
You can go as light or as aggressive as you want with it. Even just filtering the obvious bot spam makes a big difference to how pleasant the game feels.
Custom Menu Swaps
HUBQOLTakes Menu Entry Swapper further by letting you make your own custom text-based left-click rules, and even assign different hotkeys to different swaps (like 'T' for withdraw-10 but 'F' for withdraw-5). It currently covers stuff like bank withdraw/deposit, spirit trees, fairy rings and occult altar swaps.
It's a Plugin Hub plugin (separate from the built-in Menu Entry Swapper) and it's a bit more advanced, but if there's a specific swap the normal swapper doesn't cover, this is usually the answer. Power-user stuff but really nice once you set it up.
Door Kicker
HUBQOLPurely a fun/cosmetic one. It doesn't auto-open doors or save you any clicks, you still click the door yourself, despite what some people say online, it just swaps the animation so your character kicks it open instead of opening it normally. Does nothing functional, but it's funny to just boot down doors and honestly kicking doors down never gets old.
A Few Of My Own Picks (Holy Relics I use)
These aren't always on the standard top-10 lists but I personally run them and think they earn their spot. Chucking these in because a guide that just lists the obvious ones is a bit pointless.
Corner Tile Indicators
HUBPVMQOLI mentioned this in my Doom guide and I'll die on this hill, the corner-only version of tile indicators is better than the full tile version for most pvm. It highlights just the corners of your tile so you get all the info of knowing your true tile without a big solid square blocking mechanics that spawn under you. Cyan corners, clear fill, chef's kiss.

In-game shot of the corner-only true tile indicator, cyan corner brackets around the player's tile with a clear fill
Blindfold + Skybox
HUBPVMThis is a niche combo but hear me out, Blindfold hides terrain, and Skybox replaces the void with a colour of your choice. In certain bosses (like Doom) this makes shadow-tile mechanics way easier to see because the ground isn't cluttered with random rocks and detail.
Not for everyone but if you hard grind any boss with ground mechanics, SUPER worth knowing about.
Low Detail
BUILT-INPERFORMANCEPVMHides a lot of the random decorative clutter - little rocks, ground detail, bits that make the game look messy and cluttered and cost you fps for no gameplay benefit. Great for cleaning up busy boss arenas visually and squeezing out a bit more performance. Pairs well with the Blindfold/Skybox thing above.
Boss HP Bar Offset
HUBPVMReally specific one but it lets you drag the boss health bar up near the top of your screen instead of it sitting in the middle. Means you can watch a boss's hp without your eyes leaving the action. Tiny thing, big comfort for learning bosses.
Honorable Mentions
These are great but they're situational - they only matter if you do the specific content, or they're a bit more niche. Still absolutely worth grabbing if they apply to you.
- Chambers of Xeric / Theatre of Blood / Tombs of Amascut helpers - if you raid, these are borderline essential for that content. Room-specific overlays, puzzle solvers, prayer/attack helpers. I left them as honorable mentions because they only matter if you're actually raiding, but if you are, install the one for your raid immediately.
- Better NPC Highlight - a more powerful, more configurable version of NPC highlighting. Great if you want fine control over how npcs are marked, and it can hide specific entities too (I use it to hide certain boss objects). Bit more setup than the basic NPC Indicators.
- Music Tracker - tracks which music tracks you've unlocked, nice for music cape goers and completionists.
- World Map - an improved world map with search and better usability. Genuinely handy for finding things.
- Time Tracking / reminders - tracks farming patches, birdhouses, herb runs and reminds you when they're ready. Basically mandatory if you do farm runs, I just put it in mentions because not everyone does.
- Mastering Mixology - excellent if you're grinding the Mixology minigame, highlights the right potions/orders so you don't have to think. Very specific but great at what it does.
- Bald Services - bundle of assorted QoL bits and bobs. Worth a browse to see if any of its features scratch an itch for you.
Ironman Essentials
If you play an ironman, a bunch of the plugins above stop being 'nice to have' and become 'how do people play without this'. When you can't just buy your way out of a problem, organisation and knowing exactly what you have becomes everything. These are the ones I'd call almost mandatory for an iron:
- Inventory Setups - for keeping your limited gear organised into activity presets.
- Bank Tags - because your bank is your whole world as an iron and it needs to be organised.
- Loot Tracker - to know exactly what you've got and how a grind is going.
- Ground Items - you cannot afford to walk past a drop you actually need.
- Quest Helper - quests give huge item/xp rewards that irons rely on, do them efficiently.
- NPC Indicators - for slayer and hunting down specific drop sources.
- Tile Indicators - same pvm reasons as everyone else, you'll be learning bosses the hard way.
- OSRS TCG - okay this one's just for fun, but see below, it's account-progression based so irons can absolutely get into it too.
Basically, as an iron your whole account is a logistics puzzle, and all of these are tools for managing that puzzle. Install them early, you'll build good habits.
OSRS TCG - The New Hot Craze!
OSRS TCG
HUBNEWSKILLINGQOLOkay this one deserves its own section because it's blown up massively and it's one of the biggest Plugin Hub additions in ages. Made by a dev called Az, it basically bolts a whole trading card game onto your normal OSRS grind, and people have completely lost their minds over it (in a good way).
The idea is simple: you play the game exactly like you already do, and the plugin quietly rewards everything you do with a currency called Credits. Then you spend those credits on booster packs and rip them open to collect cards. There's apparently over 6,300 unique cards based on items, monsters, npcs, bosses, all the recognisable stuff from Gielinor, and yes there's shinies to chase. The pack-ripping dopamine is real, I won't lie to you.

The OSRS TCG booster pack art next to the card back design
The booster pack and card back art from the OSRS TCG plugin. That Old School pack on the left is what you'll be ripping open.

Example of opening pack.
How you earn credits (this is the clever bit, it rewards literally everything):
- XP - every 1,000 xp in non-combat skills gets you 100 credits.
- Levelling up - you get credits for level ups, scaling from level 1 up to 99.
- Killing things - you gain credits equal to the npc's combat level. A Varrock guard gives 21, whereas going toe to toe with Nex nets you a juicy 1,001. So bossing feeds it nicely.
Because it rewards skilling AND combat AND general progression, it works no matter how you play - skiller, pvmer, iron, whatever. The plugin tracks all your cards and credits itself so there's nothing to lose or mess up, and there's party integration so you can trade cards with mates.
Worth being clear: it's a fan-made plugin, purely for fun. The cards have no real-world or in-game value and Jagex doesn't sell them, so don't go thinking you're building a pension here. It's just a fun little collection layer over the game you're already playing.
There's also a community challenge mode people have built around it called Cardcore, where you can only use an item once you've actually pulled its card from a pack (duplicates get traded). It basically turns the early game into a fresh unlock puzzle and it's a really cool spin if you want a new way to experience an account. That's a whole rabbit hole of its own though.
Anyway, install it by searching 'OSRS TCG' in the Plugin Hub. Even if you're not a 'card game person' it's honestly worth trying just because it makes every bit of xp feel like it's ticking towards something extra. Very easy to get sucked in, consider yourself warned.
Final Thoughts
That's the lot, or at least the ones I actually rate. Like I said at the top, don't feel like you need to install everything here in one go - grab the essentials, play for a bit, and add stuff as you notice a need for it. Half the fun of RuneLite is slowly tuning your setup exactly how you like it over time.
If your fps ever tanks or your screen feels cluttered, the answer is almost always 'you have too many overlay plugins running', so trim back. A clean, fast client with the right 10-15 plugins beats a bloated one with 50 every single time.
If I've missed something you swear by, or got something wrong, let me know and I might add it. This'll probably get updated over time as new stuff hits the hub - the TCG plugin is proof that people are still making genuinely creative things for this game, which is sick. Anyway, go install Quest Helper and stop suffering.
