Imp Catcher is one of the shortest and easiest quests in Old School RuneScape. In this quest, you help Wizard Mizgog recover his stolen magic beads. There are no skill requirements, making it ideal for beginners, normal accounts, and ironman alike.
On Ironman accounts, this quest can take a bit longer since some steps rely on luck (explained below). However, completing it rewards the Amulet of Accuracy, which is especially useful for ironman accounts who don’t yet meet the requirements to craft stronger amulets.
Time to Complete
On a normal account, the quest can be finished in under 30 seconds if you buy all the beads from the Grand Exchange. it’s that quick!
For Ironman accounts: Bead drops from imps are random, so it can take anywhere from 5 minutes to a couple of hours, depending on how RNG treats you. I remember one of my Ironman runs where I spent a solid hour hunting just the black bead—it’s patience-testing but satisfying once you collect them all.
Item Requirements
On normal accounts, all beads can be bought from the Grand Exchange for roughly 10,000 GP in total:
- Black bead
- White bead
- Red bead
- Yellow bead
Ironman accounts: You must collect the beads yourself.
How ironman Can Obtain Beads
You’ll need to collect them yourself by killing level 2 imps (1/25.6 drop rate per bead). Best spots I’ve used:
- Karamja Volcano (8 imp spawns; watch for level 14 scorpions)
- East of Ardougne Monastery
- Southern entrance to Falador
- Kastor’s basement
Pro tip: Imps sometimes vanish in a puff of smoke and reappear nearby. Using Magic or Ranged attacks helps minimize downtime—trust me, chasing them with melee was frustrating the first time I tried it.
Recommended Items
- Necklace of Passage to teleport directly to the Wizard’s Tower (available at the Grand Exchange).
- Ironman without teleports: You’ll need to run from Lumbridge, which is not far at all.
Quest Walkthrough
- The fastest method is to buy all four beads from the Grand Exchange. Total cost is just over 10,000 GP.
- If you’re new, the Stronghold of Security rewards 10,000 GP, which is enough to cover the cost.
- Make sure to collect all the beads before starting the quest. Trust me, it’s way better than beginning the quest only to realize you’re missing one and having to run back to the Wizard’s Tower—it saves a ton of time
- Head to the Wizard’s Tower shown in the image above and climb the staircase twice to reach the top floor.
- Speak to Wizard Mizgog and hand him all four beads. Select dialogue options 1 → 1 to complete the quest. Note: He won’t accept the beads one at a time, so plan accordingly if you’re on Ultimate Ironman

- After completing the quest, players can get additional amulets by giving a full set of beads to Wizard Mizgog.
Magic XP tip: Completing Imp Catcher with only Level 1 Magic (7 XP from Tutorial Island) boosts you straight to Level 8 Magic (882 XP). it’s a surprisingly quick early-game XP boost.
