OSRS Sleeping Giants Quest Guide: Unlock Giants’ Foundry

Sleeping Giants is a quest that introduces players to the Giants' Foundry minigame. You help Kovac, a Hill Giant, investigate an ancient workshop beneath the Giants' Plateau and restore it to its former glory. The quest is straightforward and provides a good boost to Smithing XP.

General Questing Tips

• Turn on RuneLite Quest Helper — it makes following the steps way smoother and saves a lot of backtracking.
• Hold the spacebar to fly through dialogue.
• Use number keys for chat options to avoid misclicks and keep things moving.
  
  

Time to Complete: It took me about 8 minutes to finish this quest, and you should expect roughly the same time if you follow the steps.

Requirements

Skill:

• 15 Smithing
  
  

Items Needed:

• 3 Oak logs
• 1 Wool
• 10 Nails
• 1 Hammer
• 1 Chisel
  
  

Ironman Notes

• Oak logs: Just chop a couple of oak trees anywhere.
• Wool: Shear a sheep real quick—there are plenty in the Lumbridge farm.
• Nails & hammer: I usually grab these from the Sawmill Operator.
• Chisel: Buy one up from Trader Stan’s Trading Post.

• Ice gloves (to handle molten metal easily).
• Amulet of glory: to start the quest
  
  

Walkthrough of Sleeping Giants

Start the Quest

• I recommend setting up your inventory with all the required items and leaving about 20 free slots, like shown in the image below. It saves you from having to keep running back to the bank during the quest and just makes everything smoother overall.

• Teleport using an amulet of glory or run to Al Kharid then head to Giants’ Plateau, east of Al Kharid as shown with the path highlighted below
• Once you’re there, walk up to the lone Hill Giant near the giant anvil (shown below). Make sure you click Strike instead of Attack. He’ll start talking and ask for help—accept it to begin the quest.

All you need to do is left-click each one to repair it. Here’s what each tool needs:

• Trip hammer: 1 oak log, 5 nails
• Grindstone: Chisel
• Polishing wheel: 2 oak logs, 5 nails, 1 wool

Making A Sword

• Talk to Kovac to get things going, then speak to him again to get your first commission.
  After that, search the crate just south of him to grab some bars and metal items.

• Use the bars and metal items on the Crucible to fill it up.
  Talk to Kovac about the Mould Jig and just follow his instructions—feel free to pick any options for the Forte, Blades, and Tips since they don’t matter here.
• Once that’s done, pour the molten metal into the mould. If you don’t have Ice gloves, just grab a bucket, scoop some water from the nearby waterfall, cool the mould, and then pick up the Mould Jig.

Shaping the Sword

• Use the trip hammer while the sword’s temperature arrow is in the red as indicated by background colour on trip hammer icon (third bar in image above). If the sword starts to cool, just reheat it in the lava before it drops below red, then continue. Keep hammering until the arrow on the third bar in image above reaches the grinding stone section (yellow). 

• Use the grinding stone on the preform when the arrow enters the grinding stone section, while making sure to keep the sword's temperature in yellow then polish it with polishing wheel once it turns green, reheating whenever needed.
• The main thing here is keeping an eye on the temperature. The white border shows which tool you should be using and the current heat—when it shifts to a different colour, either swap tools or reheat the sword. .

Once the sword is finished, hand it over to Kovac to wrap up the quest.

Congratulations! You have completed the Sleeping Giants.
