Plague City is the first quest in the Elf quest series. You’ll investigate a deadly plague that has affected West Ardougne and help Edmond’s family stop its spread.
General Questing Tips

Item Requirements
- Dwellberries – Pick from McGrubor’s Wood (northeast of Edmond’s farm) or buy from the Grand Exchange/vendor.
- Spade – Buy from any general store.
- Rope – Buy from any general store.
- Bucket of milk – Milk a cow in Lumbridge.
- Chocolate dust – Buy a chocolate bar from Ardougne baker’s stall and use a pestle & mortar on it.
- Snape grass – Found in Hosidius, northeast peninsula.
Recommendations
Skills necklace or 30 GP to take Captain Barnaby’s ship from Rimmington or Brimhaven.

Start the Quest
- Head over to Edmond’s house, just west of East Ardougne (check the image below). Fastest ways to get there: use a Skills necklace to teleport to the Fishing Guild and run south, or hop on Captain Barnaby’s ship from Rimmington or Brimhaven for 10 coins.
- Talk to Edmond Choose chat option 1 twice to offer help.
- Edmond will tell you to speak with his wife, Alrena, about protection from the plague.
Make a Gas Mask
Gather dwellberries and give them to Alrena. She’ll make you a plague mask. Extra masks are in the cupboard if you lose yours..
Pick up the portrait in the house while there. It’s location is shown in the image above.
Dig Under the Wall
- Return and talk to Edmond. Soften the soil by using four buckets of water on the mud patch behind the farm, shown in the image below
- Use the spade on the softened mud to dig a tunnel into West Ardougne.
Enter West Ardougne
- In the tunnel, reach the blocked pipe shown in the image below. Try pulling it, use your rope on it, then talk to Edmond to help remove the grill.
- Equip your gas mask and crawl through the pipe to enter West Ardougne.
Speak to Key NPCs
- Talk to Jethick east of where you emerge; choose option 1 to get a book
- Enter the building north of the square, speak to Martha or Ted Renison, then upstairs and talk to their daughter.
Prepare Bravery Potion
- Go south toward the plague house marked with a black “X.” try opening the door and reply 2 when a dialogue starts.
- Head to the large building just north of the manhole shown in the image below and talk to the Clerk (options 1 & 3), then Bravek in east room (options 1 & 3).
- Mix the bucket of milk with chocolate dust, then use it on snape grass to make the bravery potion.
- Give the potion to Bravek (choose option 3).
Free Elena
- Return to the Plague House with it’s door marked with X
- Search the barrel, descend the stairs into the jail, and talk to Elena.
- Exit the building, climb down the manhole where you entered the city, then climb up the mud hole back to East Ardougne.
- Speak to Edmond to finish the quest.

Completion of Plague City is required to unlock the following:
Plague City rewards player Ardougne teleport scroll, which unlocks the Ardougne teleport, making it easier to return through the ardougne teleport tablets or spellbook. The next quest to do in the Ardougne series is the biohazard quest.
